VDS House Search- Links/Discussions
ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Authorities on Wednesday searched the home of Joran Van Der Sloot (search), the 17-year-old son of a Dutch official who was one of the last known people to see Natalee Holloway (search), a missing Alabama teen, alive.
House Searched
Two police officers walked through the Van Der Sloot family's one-story, yellow-beige home, while others guarded the entranceway. A blue sport utility vehicle and a red Jeep were also towed from the property
Officers on the scene would not comment, and police spokesman Edwin Comemencia said he had no information.
At about 3:30 p.m. EDT, half a dozen investigators left the scene. A short time later, several other investigators, carried out several paper bags and loaded them into the back of a small white hatchback and drove off.
About 15 minutes later, a police minivan arrived, along with six or seven new investigators and a police dog. This new team spoke with a prosecutor outside the home, then went in.
FBI (search) agents and officers from the Miami-Dade police department brought two bloodhounds to help search an area of tropical vegetation next to the Marriott Hotel on Tuesday as firefighters pumped water from the site. At nightfall, more than two weeks after the Alabama teen disappeared, they gave up the search of that area.
"We didn't find anything," police spokesman Comemencia told The Associated Press. He declined to say where investigators might look next.

Arubans search Dutch boy's home
Police detain Joran van der Sloot, 2 others; no one charged in case
NOORD, Aruba — Aruban police Wednesday searched the home of a high-ranking Dutch judicial official whose son was with a Mountain Brook honors student the night she disappeared, carrying out plastic garbage bags full of items and towing away two vehicles.
Earlier, the official, Paul van der Sloot, asked a judge for permission to see his 17-year-old son, Joran, who remains in police custody with two other young men in the May 30 disappearance of Natalee Holloway, 18.
Wednesday's search of the van der Sloot home lasted about four hours. Two white-uniformed investigators from Holland carried suitcases into the one-story, yellow-beige home, which includes an attached apartment where the young man lives. They later returned the suitcases to their white, unmarked car.
Investigators also emerged from the house carrying two white plastic garbage bags full of unidentified items. A German Shepherd also sniffed around the property outside the capital, Oranjestad.
Towed vehicles
Authorities towed a blue sport utility vehicle and a red Jeep away from the house, which is surrounded by a low stone wall and fronted by an expanse of trees and cacti.
"The search is part of the investigation," said Mariaine Croes, a spokeswoman for Attorney General Caren Janssen.
Croes said both cars belonged to the family, but she did not say why they were taken away.
Janssen, who also went into the house, declined to comment as investigators wrapped up their search at about 4 p.m. Six police officers guarded the entrance to the property.
"We are just looking for evidence at the house but have nothing yet," police spokesman Edwin Comemencia said during the search.

| Quote: | I have been given the opportunity to clear up once and for all - what actually occurred at the van der Sloot home regarding the search by ALE. This information is coming from Anita - and she has asked that I post it - due to reading here this morning about where Joran's computer was that nite.
There will be no follow up to this - this is all I intend to say on this matter. I am just trying to clear the air!
At the time of this incident Joran did not have his own computer. The van der Sloot family had one computer in their home office which all kids had to sign in on. This was to supervise their actions a bit. Paul had his own lap top and Anita had a computer at school. When Joran went to the University he then got his own brand new computer with their programs on it.
The Investigation team that came into the van der Sloot home confiscated this home computer. The also took Paul's lap top and all cameras in the house. They went through Joran's room, his so called apartment is really only a room and a bathroom, that is almost connected to the main house. They searched the whole property and most of the house and the area around the house! Anita says it took them an entire day. There were approximately 20 people involved in the search INCLUDING THE FBI, they were dressed in white. There were also 3 dogs - and the van der Sloots had to stay in one spot during this time. They also took the 2 cars that they have. It was 3 months later that they got their things back. The computers were damaged and Joran's cell phone not returned. The cars were filled with a white powder and they cut open pieces of fabric and everywhere there was duct tape. She said it took days to clean everything. They also tapped their phones for over 6 months and she does not think they had permission from the judge to do that.
So in conclusion - this was in no way a simple not very well executed or thorough search. Anita felt it was quite thorough, certainly not pleasant and for anyone to think anything else - well she feels they are completely ill advised. |

A search for Natalee was organized and began on Wednesday, June 1.
"At 10 o'clock the next morning and every morning for the next two weeks Renfro and Munzenhofer organized search parties.
The investigation began before the searches, because ALE was looking for 2 black security guards, and found 2 former security guards for another hotel (not the HI) with both reputation and opportunity. One of them was seen at the Holiday Inn the night Natalee went missing.
"The deputy chief, Gerold Dompig, insists today that police considered the three teenagers suspects from the outset; in fact, he hints that the boys' phones were tapped as part of a surveillance as early as that first weekend."

Dompig: "When you investigate you have to go systematically, we have rules, a legal system, we have to follow the rules of the game. The 3rd day we started surveillance, observation, monitoring e-mails, phone calls etc. The arrest of the suspects is usually the last thing we do... Because of the extreme pressure from the Holloways, it caused us to cut short the surveillance and arrest the 3 boys. It hindered the investigators efforts."

The Lineup
April 28, 2007
From DVD Recording
Kimberley Guilfoyle:
Dutch investigators in Aruba turned up at the home of prime suspect, Joran van der Sloot's family with search dogs and digging tools bringing new life into this case that had seemingly turned cold. Joining us in Aruba with the latest in this investigation is Fox's own Orlando Salinas.
Orlando:
Kimberley, the search for evidence lasted some 30 hours and by the time it was all over, Dutch authorities brought in some 20 forensic experts, they're talking crime scene technicians, folks who know exactly how to look for evidence.
They went to Paul van der Sloot's home early yesterday. He is the father of prime suspect Joran van der Sloot, one of three young men considered suspects in the disappearance of 18 year old Natalee Holloway.
Yesterday, police dogs roamed inside and outside the van der Sloot home, I heard some of those dogs barking. Investigators brought out several items, put some in trash bags, hauled more out in plastic boxes and put that inside rental cars. We also saw a large refrigerated truck parked right next to the house. Police roped off the homea nd waved away the media from getting too, too close.
We spoke to someone from the Prosecutor's office earlier who told us that Paul van der Sloot was not at the home when the search went on. He did drive away from us last night and we saw him again this morning.
So why dig now? The two year anniversary is coming up on May 30.Aruba states that if a criminal case is not brought to the court system within two years, then a person can no longer be considered an official suspect. Joran van der Sloot and Deepak and Satish Kalpoe remain suspects according to cops so why nearly 30 hours of investigative work at the home of van der Sloot?
So the search is over, police have left and they have pulled away the crime scene tape but the Dutch authorities didn't say what they found if anything at all.
Kimberley:
Orlando, thankyou and joining us now by phone with some perspective of what these new developments mean to Natalee's family is Natalee's aunt, Linda Allison. Thanks for being with me tonight
Were you surprised by this? What's the family's reaction to this new activity on Natalee's case?
Linda:
We're still very encouraged that the Dutch authorities are still involved in this; we're hoping by this search on the property it may come up with something that we haven't had any, any type of evidence in the past.
As you know Paulus van der Sloot has refused to have any kind of search on his property. It went from a full search to just a search of Joran's property in the beginning, actually Joran's apartment. So now we hopefully have some evidence or some reason to believe that there's a need to search the entire property
Kimberley:
Was the family given any advance notice? Did you know this was going to happen or get any kind of hint that they were going to do this renewed vigour all of a sudden
Linda:
There was a courtesy call that the Dutch authorities made to the FBI and the FBI notified the family that there would be a search. That call came in on Thursday that the search was going to begin on Friday
Kimberley:
Did you get a sense Linda of what they might specifically, I mean I expect they're looking for a body or any other kinds of clues or maybe some belongings of Natalee's?
Linda:
They've been very tight lipped about this entire investigation, they haven't given us any indication if there was a tip that led them to do this thorough search or if this is something that's been long time needing to happen that maybe that was not conducted in full scale search in the very beginning where maybe the aruban authorities just went in and did a visual search and confiscated the computers where we're now getting some forensic investigation
Kimberley:
All the rumours about the concrete being poured, what can you tell us about that?
Linda:
There have been some rumours in the very beginning that there was fresh poured concrete around the pool area and we would like that to be searched; we want the entire grounds to be searched so there's no question as to if there's any evidence it will be found now hopefully.
Kimberley:
Alright Linda, thanks for joining me tonight. Joining us now in New York is van der Sloot attorney Rosemair Arnold. What do you make of these new developments? We're approaching the two year anniversary on May 30. Do you think this is just one big PR push to show they've done everything they can in this case?
Arnold:
I think that's exactly what's going on here. I want to clear something up.
Paulus van der Sloot never refused to have his house searched. This house was searched by aruban authorities right in the very beginning. They had a search warrant and he let them in and he said search wherever you want. Was he supposed to say them 'hey, why don't you dig up my pool?' He let them in and let them do what their search warrant said and for her to come in here, the aunt, and say he refused to let them search the property is ridiculous.
Now you have Dutch authorities coming in. They just want to make sure they didn't leave any stones unturned. The statute of limitations is coming up, two years have passed, they've arrested 10 people and questioned hundreds. There's absolutely no evidence whatsoever that Joran had any involvement in Natalee's disappearance and it's time to close the case and I think everybody knows that and that's exactly what's going on here.
Kimberley:
Did they say something specifically to you about the justification they had to go in and search and dig up somebody's property? They had to have some kind of reasoning for this.
Arnold:
They didn't specifically say what the reasoning is but we are being told by our sources in Aruba that it's just the beginning of the end and they just want to make sure they didn't leave any stones unturned literally and they are going to come to the end of this investigation.
Kimberley:
Alright Rosemarie, keep us posted and thanks for joining me tonight.

Article from Amigoe - Sunday 29 April 2007
Again a search at the home of the Van der Sloot family
http://www.amigoe.com/english/
About 20 forensic experts from the Netherlands searched the family home of Joran van der Sloot yesterday. This is the second time that this is done in connection with the disappearance case of Natalee Holloway.
ORANJESTAD – About 20 forensic-technical experts from the Netherlands have been busy searching the house of the family Van der Sloot since yesterday. The investigation on the disappearance of Natalee Holloway since May 30th 2005 received a new impulse since April 16th, said the Public Prosecutor (OM). The Corps national police service (KLPD) in the Netherlands has investigated the file again and came up with more findings.
A highly placed government official told Amigoe last week that the team expects to find Holloway’s remains soon in Aruba , But official channels do not confirm this. The tracks-investigation at the family home of Joran van der Sloot, who is still the main suspects in this case, will possibly take a few days. Experts of among others the Dutch Forensic Institute are combing out the house and the grounds around it and dogs have been put in. The OM does not want to tell what the reason is for this investigation and what they are looking for. The local authorities, the FBI, and officials of the Dutch Forensic Institute have already searched this house at numerous occasions before, and have confiscated several items and also 2 cars belonging to family Van der Sloot.
The OM says that the Aruban and Dutch detectives that are currently working on the case have indications that ‘justify a further criminal investigation. That’s all they wanted to say. Justice emphasized though that this house search has nothing to do with the book of Joran van der Sloot that was published in the Netherlands last Wednesday. “This search action was already planned as part of the investigation on the missing Natalee Holloway that is still going”, stated a press release of the OM.
Justice-minister Rudy Croes (MEP) asked the KLPD for assistance in the case last year. A team of Dutch detectives investigated the file and came out with a report and recommendations. The KLPD gave the report to the Attorney General at the end of last month and the investigation is being continued based on this. This one is being led by the Aruban public prosecutor Elivia Lugo.
