Heated Exchange Forum Discussion-moderated
I screwed up when I tried to move what I thought should be the OP in this thread-sorry if there is confusion.
LTF did not quote this-I inserted it.

In fact, I would propose that a private discussion area for established posters would not be a bad idea. This would also help to contain board issues/arguments spread all over the other message boards.
And yes, both options I mentioned would case controversy. But then, so has the one we have now. |

i think they should get rid of a registerd HE return to prior way and let the posts fall in their own order--he should not be a place that hides the shit or starts it . it should not be used as a bait game to see how hot it maked the topic before it goes there . as i said before if it is not broken do not fix it-- as dr phil would say -hows it going for you > is you life better or worst now -lol--well ask a FEW --

MJ, lately i have read about two instances where there was a secret board within a board. In both instances I was reading the shock from the posters who were not invited into the secret room. Since a tenet of refugees has always been "total openness and disclosure" don't you think it might make things worse?

I disagree (surprise, surprise). I don't think the problem is new nicknames in HE (not that I would know because I haven't looked at HE since it went private). I think the problem is this board has structured itself so HE is now the main discussion forum.
Unless HE has changed dramatically in the last week, it would be my considered opinion that no meaningful discussions can ever take place in HE. It is just a bash-fest to see who is better at talking smack. Even if this board did not allow new Refs to register for HE, you would still have the same cesspool of bashing where no dialogue is ever possible. Lets face it, the worst offenders have been on this board from day one.
HE was supposed to be a place where individuals could go to work out personal problems with each other out of the public's eye. It was never meant to be the main discussion forum of this board. Y'all already know how I feel about the ease with which threads can now get moved into HE. Until that changes, this board is stuck right here. I hope everybody likes the status quo.

I don't know CR....I have been noticing that a lot of posters are saying that they didn't register for the HE. Wonder how many posters actually did register. If very few posters registered then every time a post went to the HE, it would die as the posters wouldn't vollow it. Last night SS and I were on a thread and reddog said this should go to the HE. I immediately removed from my post the comment I thought prompted reddog to say the thread should go to the HE and then I said "go ahead take it to the HE, I shant be going with it"...ironically SS followed soon after saying the same thing.

Yes, and as I recall, the next thing that happened was the thread went to HE and you got mocked for the use of the word "shant." I'm telling you, the problem is HE has become a discussion forum instead of a private place to iron out differences. And it's not "newbies" that are causing the trouble in HE. The mere fact that Reddog can say "move the thread to HE" and the next thing you know, the thread is in HE is a strong indication of where the problem lies.
The reason so many posters actually registered for HE and are participating in the bash fests in the cesspool is because that is the way the board has currently structured itself. When the board was polled on the question of whether or not to keep HE open, the baord responded overwhelmingly to burn HE to the ground. The board's mandate was not respected. Instead, a bad situation was made worse.

I thought you had not been there in HE?
Here is what you said just one post back:
"I disagree (surprise, surprise). I don't think the problem is new nicknames in HE (not that I would know because I haven't looked at HE since it went private). I think the problem is this board has structured itself so HE is now the main discussion forum." |
I didn't even know that the thread ultimately ended up in the HE. reddog's comments about the use of the word "shant" were made on the board not in HE.

I have participated in HE for quite some time now and still do. I do not view the HE the same way that you do. As a participant, I think we have many discussions there that are not bashing or trashing. Some are just lighthearted fun.
I never knew that HE was suppose to be a place where individuals could go to work out personal problems with each other out of the public's eye. It was my belief that HE was started as a place where posters COULD go and be more bold with their discussions and not worry about offending the delicate of heart.
I've never viewed HE as the main discussion area of this forum and I do not view it as that to this day.
So, my note will only show that for as many posters as we have here, there are as many different points of view. No one being more valid than the other.

I think to some it may have appeared that, before HE went by registration only, most of the discussion was taking place there and not much on the boards outside of HE.

Sorry, I was just going from what you wrote in your post...wasn't familiar with that particular post of Fiery's and RD's response.
I will go back and edit my post, and I apologize. Thank you for telling me what happened.

Of course, we have no idea how many people voted with their multiple nics to close a section that they never even participated in.
Seems strange to me to ask a whole board if one area should be removed, because they don't like the people who participate in that section, or they don't like the conversations taking place there.
Now, why don't we poll those posters who use HE every day, if they think that HE should stay or go? Better yet, why don't we ask the posters who never participate in the NH forum area if the NH Forum area should go?

I didn't vote...the thread didn't interest me that much. I didn't realize a poll was being taken to determine what changes were going to be made.
I thought it was just a "poll" for purposes of discussion.

That's the membership of the entire forum...from the index page a few minutes ago. So that couldn't be right...so many have said they did not join.

So are you saying that I'm wrong and that the real problem with Refs is something else? What do you think the problem is (or do you deny that there's a problem in river city)?

I agree with that Charlie! That has been my opinion since HE went private!
Actually, when I saw the # of posts in the HE surpass the NH section and all forums on the front page I thought we may be headed for trouble.

That's the membership of the entire forum...from the index page a few minutes ago. So that couldn't be right...so many have said they did not join. |
I didn't think that was correct. I think when VC first posted the link to join HE, the member list was there. At one point it was going on to the third page of posters...I haven't seen it since. Maybe about 75 posters joined? I have no idea.

Instead, a bad situation was made worse. |
charlie rat, you are wrong.
i did not say ""move the thread to HE".

As luck would have it, that thread spent some time in HE then got moved back to the NH page. |
the sandrak issue thread got moved several times.
i did not see the scrux thread get moved to HE. it is on the nh forum.
the scrux thread is where my comment was made.
