heart broken

I am soooooo sad. Tomorrow, our beloved boxer will be euthanized. She has been a babysitter, an entertainer, and a friend, confidant and family member for the past 12 years. Although I know we are doing the "right" thing, it still breaks my heart.

Oh, Woe, I am so sorry. I pray the warm and happy memories you have with your precious dog will help you get through this sad time. Please read this poem....

IF IT SHOULD BE

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this last battle cannot be won.

You will be sad, I understand.
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than all the rest,
Your love for me must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years.
What is to come can hold no fears.
You'd not want me to suffer so;
The time has come -- please let me go.

Take me where my need they'll tend,
And please stay with me till the end.
Hold me firm and speak to me,
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I've been saved.

Please do not grieve -- it must be you
Who had this painful thing to do.
We've been so close, we two, these years;
Don't let your heart hold back its tears.
Ya-Ya!

Sid's poem, sweetie....it's beautiful. I know you are going through so much right now. I hear so often of people losing their pets and it just breaks my heart...I know that day will come eventually for me, to lose my precious Magic and Sasha....I don't know how I will get through it. I am thinking of you! Hug

My apologies. Thank YOU, sid, for the beautiful poem.

I can tell by her eyes the time has come. She begs for relief, which I can no longer provide. I have to put her on a blanket and drag her when she needs out, as she can no longer walk. Both eyes have ulserated and are soooo painful. I have been getting up every 2 hours with her for the past week to give her meds, but they just dont provide her enough pain relief.

No, it is not spaz, but spaz is not doing well either. He can no longer climb stairs, and drags his hind legs behind him most of the time. Our big problem right now is we have 3 dogs over the age 12, so things are looking grim.

WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME
Author: Unknown

When tomorrow starts without me
And I'm not there to see;
The sun will rise and find your eyes,
All filled with tears for me.

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today
Remembering how I'd lay my head
In your lap that special way.

I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too.

But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an Angel came and called my name,
And petted me with her hand.

She said my place was ready,
In Heaven far above.
And that I'd have to leave behind,
All those I dearly love.

But, as I turned to heel away,
A tear fell from my eye.
For all my life I never thought,
That I would have to die.

I had so much to live for,
So many sits and downs to do,
That it seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.

I thought about our lives together,
I know you must be sad.
I thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.

Remember how I'd nudge your hand,
And poke you with my nose.
The squirrel I would gladly chase,
The bad guy "I'd bark and hold".

If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for a little while,
I'd wag my tail and kiss you,
Just so I could see you smile.

But, then I fully realized,
That this could never be;
For emptiness and memories,
Will take the place of me.

And when I thought of treats and toys
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you and when I did
My dog-heart filled with sorrow.

But then I walked through Heaven's Gate
And felt so much at home;
As God looked down and smiled at me
From His beautiful throne.

He said, This is eternity,
And now we welcome you.
Today your life on earth is past,
But here it starts anew.

I promise no tomorrow
But today will always last;
For you see, each day's the same day
There's no longing for the past.

Now you have been so faithful,
So trusting, loyal and true.
Though there were times you did things,
You knew you shouldn't do.

But good dogs are forgiven,
And now at last you're free.
So won't you sit here by my side,
And wait right here with me?

So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart.
For every time you think of me,
I'm right there, in your heart.

Oh woe.. i am so sorry to hear this. Today will be heartbreaking for you, but you are giving her the last gift you can. Relief from pain. She will thank you from the rainbow bridge and be with you in spirit as an angel on your shoulder.

Nothing makes it easier, except knowing that her suffering is over..my prayers are with you and your family.

Big hugs.

Woe, my thoughts and prayers are with you today - and with your family. May you take comfort in knowing that it is out of love and concern that you are providing the relief from the ravages of age and illness for her. It is so very hard to lose the love and companionship of an animal. I have also had to deal with the end of life issues over the years, not only for my dear animals, but also for relatives with living wills. It is gut wrenching but something that you do out of love and compassion.
