Lightning Strike Leaves Through Woman's Nose Ring
ANTRIM, N.H. (WBZ) ― A 21-year-old Antrim woman is recovering after being struck by lightning Wednesday night. The bolt hit her feet and came out through her nose ring.
Jessica Lafreniere was hit while she was walking through her family's garage.
"She had walked into the garage to go outside to turn off the faucet. The light came in through the garage and hit her," Jessica's mother, Danielle Taylor told WBZ.
"It was like a red flash that came from her feet and she was thrown into my arms. She was blue and purple, and stiff as a board."
"When you hear it, it's unbelieveable, but it's true."
Jessica and her mother had been out filling up water balloons when the storm came in, so they went inside. Danielle says Jessica decided to go back out to shut off the hose when the flash hit her.
"The flash came from her feet, her face lit up, and the next thing I knew Jessica was in my arms...I turned her over and she was stiff as a board," Danielle Taylor said. "(It was like) literally picking up a board and moving it that landed on top of you -- that's what she felt like."
Jessica was back to work hours later for her overnight shift. Taylor said her daughter is feeling better, although the top of her lip and the tip of her nose are numb.
By the way - they figured with this luck they should buy a scratch lottery ticket. They did and they won $20.
The odds of being struck by lightning in a given year are one in 500,000, according to WBZ meteorologist Mish Michaels. But over a lifetime, they're one in 5,000.
Nine out of 10 people struck by lightning do survive, but suffer significant medical effects.

She got hit by lightning and figured it was a good omen to go buy a scratch-off. Uh huh.

Wow, I'm going to remember this one in case my daughter ever says she wants to get a nose ring.
I can imagine how scary that must have been though.
We were in Florida in June for my daughter's sports competition and we were in Disneyworld and I while was waiting for my daughter and others to get off of a ride the clouds turned black and the thunder started clapping and the lightening started popping, by the time they got off it was pitch black and the lighting was just minutes apart. We all ran from the back of the park to the exit while the lightening was cracking all around us. By the time we got to the busses it was actually hitting the ground.
Now these kids were athletes so making a mad dash from the back of Disney to the busses was no sweat..me... by the time I got there could barely breath and couldn't walk.
I love watching storms from home but hate being out in them.

Too funny, pro.
I don't like to be out in storms at all either. We have had several houses hit by lightning lately causing fires. One got hit this week in the subdivision right next to mine. Scary and it seems that the thunder is louder than ever now...

I've watched some various documentaries on TV about how lightning affects people who are actually struck and injured badly. It is SO scary...they are never the same, and have some of the oddest symptoms, and in many cases, MUCH pain. Well I live in FL, and we get a lot of lightning....it terrifies me. I do love thunder storms when INSIDE the house. My dogs go nuts though.
