BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (AP) - The attorney for a former Bolingbrook police officer suspected in his wife's disappearance is demanding clemency if 23-year-old Stacy Peterson returns.
Drew Peterson's attorney says the missing mother of 2 could be sued or face criminal charges, like felony disorderly conduct, if she comes back.
A Will County state's attorney's spokesman declined to comment on the matter.
Police have labeled the suburban Chicago woman's disappearance a possible homicide and named Drew Peterson a suspect.
Peterson has denied any wrongdoing and believes his wife left him for another man and is alive.
Stacy Peterson's family says she claimed she was in an abusive relationship with her husband and was making plans to divorce him.
Family members have said she wouldn't have willingly left her children.
