Do 1 nice thing ideas for a Sunday

Earth - Animals

I found a site for eco-minded businesses to donate 1% of profits to help the environment - the idea was started I believe from the Patagonia company - onepercentfortheplanet - Didi

Click to donate free bowls of food to animals at shelters and sanctuaries at www.theanimalrescuesite.com each day. They also have an online store with unique gifts for great prices and with each item you purchase, more bowls of food are donated. - Chandra Turk

Give used sheets & towels to animal shelters, and anything to anyone who wants/needs it via FreeCycle.org. - Laura Jones

If you have an old cel phone many womens shelters and domestic abuse shelters accept old cel phones that they can use to call for help when the need arises. Many community action programs accept them for the middle to low income families on their programs to use for searching for jobs and such as well. Peace Joy and Love.... pass them on. - C. Hyde

My boyfriend and I both walk to work even throughout all the Canadian winter months. We only use the car for longer trips and shopping. We also compost everything we can. Since we started composting about 5 years ago we only have to put out garbage for pick-up about every three weeks instead of every week! Valerie

I belong to local freecycle groups which donate items to those who have a need. You can post an offer or a wanted ad and then make arrangements to deliver or pick the items up. It's a great way to discard things you wouldn't want thrown in the trash and someone who needs them benefits. One (wo)man's trash is another's treasure. Rebecca Journey-Smith

Donate unused pet dishes and beds and any other pet items not used to the local animal shelter. Terri Rimmer

Foster Animals - Great activity for the entire family, I have taken in unwanted puppies and kittens from local shelters for a few day/weeks until they are old/well enough to go to forever homes. My children are learning to be part of the solution instead of the problem. - Diane Jones

If we could recover just 5% of the food wasted this year, we could feed 14 million people. Reduce waste by donating leftovers: Ask the managers of your favorite cafes and restaurants to donate their leftovers to a food bank.

I gave away the holiday decorations that I didn't use this year. I cleaned out my desk and shredded all the old stuff and put it in the recycle bin. I have a box of things to give to my friends that don't have as much as I do. Tomorrow I will recycle all my newspapers and bottles and cans. - Barbara Lopez, CA

Find things you don't use and give them away. Take:
magazines to a hospital waiting room - Annabelle Stevens, CA
clothes, toys to Goodwill or a shelter
videos and dvds to hospitalized children. Contact kidflicks@aol.com
office equipment to the Salvation Army - Kristina Schwartz, CA
children's books to a pediatric hospital - Israel Grinberg, TX
sports shoes, equipment to BigBrothers/Sisters - Janie Culos, MD
some of your hair to Locks of Love - Andrea Klein, CA
SAT and college guides to high schools that need them.
cell phones to Recycling Alliance - Karin Mueller, CA
gently used books to public places - Scott Landsbaum, CA
Carpool or take the bus.
Carpool or take the bus.

Pick up litter at a nearby park or beach.

Drop off empty ink cartridges, rechargeable batteries and cell phones for recycling at Best Buy.

Help reduce global warming. Get your engine tuned up, your tires inflated and try to drive less. A tune-up could boost your mileage 4 to 40 percent; a new air filter could get you 10 percent more miles per gallon. http://www.nrdc.org/globalwarming

Help the Humane Society and Noah's Wish rescue animals who were abandoned during Hurricane Katrina.

Instead of killing insects in your home, relocate them: Put a drinking glass over them on the wall; slide a piece of cardboard under the glass to capture them; then carry them outside and release them.

Please spay or neuter your pet. One female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in six years. One female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 kittens in seven years. 8 to 12 million animals enter shelters annually. 35 to 60% are euthanized. http://www.aceofheartsfoundation.com. Kari Whitman, CA

Save homeless cats from suffering and starving to death. Spay or neuter your household pet and encourage others to do the same. http://www.FeralCatAlliance.org

Take pet food and toys to an animal shelter.

habitat for humanity is a well deserving group. we have donated boxes of hardwood flooring to them -it was well apreciated. -they help build homes for those who may not have one under normal circumstances. the potential homeowners give their time in hours to build others homes and then they get credit towards their own. they will accept help or materials--if anyone has wood ect-they could use it ---

The best thing we can give is our time and talent. Anyone can donate money but not everyone is willing to give themselves. This to me is the true gift.

No one can do everything, everyone can do something. A helping hand is a nice thing to give, as well as a kind word.
