One person, one vote....
I get very aggrevated when I hear people say they are voting one way or another based on some issue that does not even affect them...for example...
I've heard people say they are going to vote in favor or gay marriage even when they are not gay.
So my point is....we all have one vote to cast for ourselves, not for what we want for others. If we vote based on what we want for others we are essentially giving someone else our vote, and that tips the scales away from what a real representative government is all about.
I just used the gay marriage thing as an example because it was clearly defined, but it goes to all things...such as, if you want to pay higher taxes then vote for the candidate who will raise them on your earnings...but don't vote for a candidate that says he will raise taxes on someone else just because it doesn't effect you and/or you want the rich to pay more.
I guess my point is, I find it my civic duty to remind people they should be voting for how they want their OWN lives to be affected, not how they want the lives of others to be affected.
One vote per person. No one should give that away. In the end, the majority with the needs addressed by a particular candidate will elect that candidate for what the majority needs in their own lives.
Sympathizers with other people's issues should just do community service to help those people they care about, but the damn vote for who will influence the entire country can only be honest if we only vote for what we personally need from our government.
