Albert Pujols cousin charged with 2nd degree murder
Pujols' cousins involved in police chase, bicyclist fatality

Two cousins of Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols were involved in a police chase that left a 17-year-old bicyclist dead Thursday in Independence, MO police said.
Wilfredo Pujols, 24, who police said was driving the car, was charged with second-degree murder, resisting arrest, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated.
Charges are pending against 20-year-old Wilfrido "Will" Pujols, Wilfredo’s brother, who was drafted by the Cardinals in the sixth-round of the 2005 baseball amateur draft, but is no longer with the organization.
Police received a call around 9 p.m. about a red Ford Crown Victoria that was ramming another vehicle. An officer spotted the car on Lee Summitt Blvd. near I-70 and tried to pull it over, said Tom Gentry, a spokesman for the Independence Police Department.
The officer chased the red Crown Victoria onto I-70 westbound then onto Noland Road.
At a stop light at Osage road the car struck 17-year-old Christopher Cooper.
The chase continued for another couple of miles before the road ended and two men jumped out of the car and ran into the woods. They were caught with the use of helicopters and dogs, Gentry said.

So sad. Much love and peace to Albert and his family, and especially to the family of the bicyclist.

Witnesses said the red Ford was speeding, going 90 mph or faster, when it hit the teenager on a bicycle Thursday night.
The police car was right behind.
Christopher E. Cooper, 17, a son, a smiling classmate, and a skateboarder, died of blunt trauma from the collision.
On Friday, prosecutors charged with murder the man they say was driving the speeding car.
Wilfredo J. Pujols, 24, faces one count of second-degree murder, one count of resisting arrest and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated. All but the DWI are felonies.
Pujols, of Independence, made his first appearance in court Friday evening. A judge read the charges against him and ordered him held on $500,000 cash bond.
