Coming back to this thread and reading what's been posted, it seemed that just because of who the target was THIS TIME, some of the posters took it as a "whatever, yawn, let's move on, no problem, mountain out of molehill" and I appreciate your thoughts, appreciate you saying it is a real concern.

It has become so commonplace on these boards now that you almost expect it on a daily basis now...maybe that explains the reaction this time...or it may be as you say...it depends on who it is happening to...
I think that all you can do is distance yourself from the likes of these kinds of people...and those who choose to remain close to them.....well those will be "tomorrow's" victims...and then and only then will they truly understand what you feel...

I'm not sure I understand the question. I think it says something about VC...she would like us to talk about something in a civil manner. And FF was adamant that the thread be kept OUT of HE....so VC said in effect, okay, but no bashing.

I knew my post would be picked apart. 
FF, your last sentence implies I am less than sympathetic. I really didn't follow ALL of what has happened. Therefore I gave no real opinion. That is NOT because of "who it happened too." I am still not even clear on what it is that happened.
All I know is we weren't supposed to argue on here and I've seen A LOT of picking apart of posts.
One real question I've had is that you have mentioned that you have specific info via PMs that Medley had given names and personal info to sandra, because of the Paypal info she was privy to. I understand you don't wish to make any PMs public...and I don't blame you. But I honestly have a problem with the accusation.....whoever told you this MAY NOT have the truth. What is it was THAT person's intent just to cause trouble? And if in fact, it is NOT true, it's very harmful to the board, I think, to accuse w/o that needed positive proof.

I have a question. I know I posted om this thead this afternoon and I know that I was completely respectful of the fact that we are in the moderated forum. Now all my posts are gone. Why?
If my posts brought the gang out to bash and trash here, then maybe the gang's posts should have been moved and maybe members of the gang should get a timeout but I didn't do or say anything to deserve banishment to the sewer.
Mods, please move my posts back. This is exactly my concern about the new HE. The gang now controls what goes where.

I thought my eyes were crossing up, but I guess i'm just confused. One thread is here & one in HE, and i did see your posts there. But now all the times are running in my head! I'm just too tired to figure out who posted what, to whom, & at what time! So good night!

But see how it works? What is your standard of "something to back them up?" Do you tend to give certain posters more leeway with that "something" that concludes you to believe they are "telling the truth?"
What you or anyone believes is the truth can be discussed respectfully. I have no idea if you are now a member of HE. Were you ever an active, participating member there? If so, what were your intentions? Did you base your opinions on pm's provided by others?
I realize that I have not followed all this controversy on RU as closely as you. If I got my facts mixed up, I apologize. It was not my intention.

None of the members of the supposed "gang" are mods or admin. So how would they control who goes where?
I don't like the posts being moved, either fwiw. It works both ways: if I am having a heated debate with you, and the posts get moved...then the discussion has been effectively ended, but not by either of us.

Fiery, you bring up something that has bothered me for awhile. I have wondered how "we" (as a group) could hold someone in high esteem that trashes Refs on other sites. This is a true red flag being waved by this person (people) that should clue everyone in that this person doesn't respect Refs or the members.
My father, a long time ago, once told me that if someone talks about others to you, then imagine what they are telling others about you. That's your very first indication that they're not true friends to anyone at all. This advice still holds true in the PM's and emails of the Internet also.
Real life information should never be "outted." Not to any individual, much less a message board. Anyone playing this game should be banned, no matter how many "friends" or which "side" they're on. As a matter of fact, all these "friends" need to ask themselves whether they truly want to be associated with people that would do something as low as that.

iirc, I simply stated my thoughts that when HE started getting more posts than NH and other front page forums I felt it was detrimental to Refs and the climate here definitely changed.

I agree with you about the good of the board and its reputation. I merely asked that poster about any participation in HE.
However, intent is subjective. I dislike the idea of posters eating others for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I don't have any answers. Maybe a more definitive mission of the board and its desired reputation? Free speech and low moderation don't seem to be the reputation of the board at this point.

I was accused of being a 'hat gang banger' and didnt have a hat...so the hats on avatars didnt have a thing to do with the labels some were given. I never joined a 'gang' nor am I a part of any online 'gang' so I disagree that the hat avatars making you a gang member.
The 'gang' comments have nothing to do with hats or opinions it simply has to do with if you speak to the cow turd 4..if you're nice to them you're a gang..simple as that.

HE was at some points entertaining. However, I took the comments of my fellow posters and went back to read in the HE....I came away with a sick feeling in my stomach. Essentially, when vivi was banned and kept coming back she set up shop in the HE. Okay, that is fine.....she was joined by others....sadly, the others did not know when they were crossing lines....things in the HE often got out of hand.....posters were very afraid to say anything or post anything for fear of having "the gang" jump all over them in vicious and sometimes threatening ways. Now, as a joke people donned hats on their avatars........the hats were a fun joke....the hats did not necessarily delineate anything....however people took them to mean you were part of the infamous gang and ultimately to wear a hat was a negative....some posters in the HE were asking very important and legitimate questions....others were merely adding fuel to the fire and others were simply there to disrupt anything and everything. Some posters were repeatedly threatened in the HE. When VC and joy took the "should the HE be burned down" poll I posted that the HE wasn't all bad. In retrospect, I rescind that statement. Since I haven't joined it....i realize I wasn't happy with it. Perhaps we should abandon it....however I think what people are very upset about is that the HE environment has spilled out into the entire board. People are leaving, afraid to post, wholly intimidated....at this point.....it is probably hopeless...Honestly, everytime someone is able to specify where the problems are.....they are shot down..... |
Bolded- it is the opposite= the usual bickering and fighting that occured on the main board, was taken to the HE. I don't buy the ol' HE is the root of all evil on this board- not for a dang second. I am sick and plain tired of hearing the way the board used to be...
It has always been like this. Posters saying ViVi had an affair, gossiping about butter dishes, posting crude photos, discussing the charity ball, attacking Robin Holloway with a vengeance, threatening legal action (shalby) blah blah blah. it has always happened, and it sure as heck didn't start in the HE. It started with people- and how they are- both in real life and on the boards.
edited to add- the only things that have "changed" around here are the targets ... hmm- that sure sounds like how it is in real life..
