Statements Joran Van der Sloot, June 9, 2005 PROCES-VERBAAL We, Dennis Domenico JACOBS and Luigi Angelo Giovanni CROES, head police officer and police officer first class with the Korps Politie Aruba, first mentioned officer is attached to the Robbery Protection Team (Atraco Team) and last mentioned officer is attached to the Section Often Occuring Crimes District 2, declare/state the following. On June 9th 2005, at approximately 12.00 hours, we the reporting officers interviewed as suspect in this the man named: Joran Andreas Petrus van der SLOOT, born in Arnhem, Netherlands on August 6th 1987, no profession student (International School of Aruba) and living on Montanja number 19 on Aruba. His statement was made in dutch and was transcribed by me, JACOBS, and goes as follows. Before we, the reporting officers, started the interview, I, JACOBS, informed the suspect that he was not obliged to make a statement and that this interview would be recorded on tape. Although I have been informed by you that I under no obligation to make statements, I am still willing to make a statement in accordance with the truth. On Sunday, I do not remember the date any more, I went at approximately 16.00 hours, to the "Excelsior Casino" at the Holiday Inn Hotel to play "Texas Hold'm poker". (with this the suspect is talking about May 29th 2005). I went with my father named "Paul van der SLOOT" to the casino. I went to play "Texas Hold'm Poker" with my father. It is a poker game in which you get 7 cards and you have to make a card combination with your best (5) cards. You get 500 U.S. $ of fake money and with this money you play. I was done sooner than my father and I went and hung around in the casino. When it was half time of the game my father wanted to go home to go and babysit my ten year old brother. At my father's request I sat in for him and played "Texas Hold'm poker. I am not sure as to when half time was but I think it was between 19.00 and 20.00 hours. I kept on gambling until I lost too. This was according to me until 21.30 to 22.00 hours. I went to walk around in the casino and after that went to the "Blackjack" table to play blackjack. While I was sitting at the table the girl "Natalee" that is missing now to the blackjack table together with her friends. When the English speaking girls came to the blackjack table they introduced themselves. I do not remember the names of the girls anymore but they were from the same group of students that Natalee belonged to. According to me the friends of Natalee played blackjack but Natalee didn't. A girl that was sitting at my left side on the table asked me in English if I could help her play blackjack because she had lost U.S. $ 360,= of her father's money. The girl bet U.S. $ 20,= in the game and I helped her win U.S. $ 100,= with it. After the girl had won U.S. $ 100,= I advised her to call it quits but she wanted to continue. I told her again that she should stop and her friends also said that she should stop. Probably the girl after that went to cash in her chips for money. The girlfriends of the girl asked me if I was going to "Carlos & Charlies" that night. I told them that I couldn't do that because I had school tomorrow. The girls kept insisting that I should meet them at "Carlos & Charlies" because it was their last night on Aruba. After they kept insisting I agreed to meet with at "Carlos & Charlies". I don't know that name of the girl but I remember her from a photo in the newspaper on which Natalee was printed on the left side of her friends and the other girl was on the right side of the friends. This girl is the same girl that sat at my left side at the blackjack table. After this I told the girl that it was OK and that I would do my best to go to "Carlos & Charlies". After that the group of girls walked to the Sportsbar. In the Sportsbar I also saw to two acquaintances who were watching baseball. I greeted my two acquaintances and told them that I was doing fine too and that I would be going to "Carlos & Charlies" that night. My two acquaintances are named "Luis" and "Joshua". I regularly meet them at Carlos & Charlies. The last name of Luis is "BETANCOURT". I do not know the last name of Joshua. Luis BETANCOURT is a Venezuelan and according to me Joshua is Colombian but I don't know that for sure. After that I walked next to the group of girls and they said to me that I should not forget to go to Carlos & Charlies. I told that that I would do my best. The girl who stood printed on the right side in the newspaper told me that she was going to take a shower and that she would then go to Carlos & Charlies. I did not make an agreement with the girl as to how late I would meet them at Carlos & Charlies. After that I walked outside through the casino and when I got outside I called my father from my mobile phone which has the number "REMOVED" on the mobile phone of my mother. My mother has a mobile phone with the number "REMOVED". I called my father on that phone because my mother was outside of the country and my father had her phone in his possession. When I called my father it was approximately 23.00 hours. I told my father that I was ready and if he could come and pick me up at "Mc Donalds". After that I had called my friend "Jaime CARASQUILLA" on his mobile phone. I do not know his phone number from memory but I have programmed his mobile phone number in the memory of my mobile phone under the name "Beto". I asked Beto what he was doing and whether he wanted to accompany me in going to Carlos & Charlies. Beto answered me that he was doing nothing but that he could not accompany me to Carlos & Charlies because he had to go to work the next day. Beto works with a transport company but I do not know the name of that company. After that I called Deepak KALPOE and asked him what he was doing and if he wanted to come with me to Carlos & Charlies. Deepak told me he was closing up "Inex" and that he would accompany me to Carlos & Charlies because he didn't have to go to work the next day. Deepak told me that he would be going home first to take a bath and that after that he would come and pick me up at my place. Deepak's nickname is "Tupac". Deepak has a mobile phone with the number "REMOVED". I walked through the Hyatt parking lot where they have a Coca Cola vending machine and there I bought a can of coke. After that I walked to Mc Donalds and had bought a Mc Flurry there. At 23.00 hours my father came to pick me up at Mc Donalds. I am not sure about the time because I never wear a watch. To your question as to where my mobile phone is, I answer that it is at home. My mobile phone is on my desk in my room. To your question whether I have a girlfriend, I answer to you that I had a girlfriend. After this happened I told my girlfriend what had happened and she wasn't happy about it. My girlfriend's name is "Elaine" but I do not remember het last name now. I do not know the address where Elaine lives but I can point out her house to you. Elaine is Aruban and she studies at the Colegio Arubano Oranjestad. A few weeks ago she and her fellow students went to Venezuela. She now is in class V-4 on the Colegio Arubano and she is 17 years old. Elaine has a mobile phone, but her name is under the nickname "Fishy" in the memory of my mobile phone. I have to say that I have another girlfriend now. Her name is "Florencia METZ". She just graduated from the Mavo and lives behind "Codemsa". Her friends and acquaintances call her "Flor". I do not know the number of her house but I can point it out to you. Flor has a mobile phone with the number "REMOVED". Flor is from Argentina and I talk dutch with her. After my father came and picked me up at Mc Donalds we drove home. I took a shower. After that I had gotten dressed again and according to me at approximately 24.00 hours, Deepak and Satish came and picked me up at home. Before they came and picked me up I had called Deepak to ask where he has and he told me that he was on his way. At approximately 00.15 hours the three of us left for Carlos & Charlies. (with this Monday May 30th is meant; comment Jacobs). I have to say that I also called Flor and asked if she wanted to come to Carlos & Charlies. She answered that she wasn't allowed to go from her dad. Flor is 16 years old. To your question as to what clothes I was wearing when I was picked up by Deepak and Satish, I can answer the following. I wore a white/blue shirt, a blue/white jeans trouser or a three-quart black trouser and a couple of white shoes or crème coloured boots. I do not remember now what underwear I was wearing. I do not remember how Deepak and Satish were dressed. I didn't tell my father that I was going to Carlos & Charlies with Deepak and Satish. I hadn't asked my father for permission because he would most likely refuse and usually I ask permission from my mother. To your question with whom I regularly go to Carlos & Charlies, I answer you that I regularly go there with "Freddy ZEDAN" and "Jaime CARASQUIA". Freddy is a Venezuelan and Jaime is a Columbian. The boy named "Koen GOTENBOS" also regularly goes out with us. The names of my three friends are in the memory of my mobile phone. Freddy is under the name "Fefi" and Koen under the name "Cul". After that we drove straight to Carlos & Charlies. Deepak was the driver but I cannot remember now who was sitting beside him. I do not remember now if it was Satish or me. I estimate that we arrived at Carlos & Charlies between 00.15 and 00.30 hours. Deepak parked his car on the parking lot behind Carlos & Charlies and after that we walked into the building of Carlos & Charlies. I don't have to pay because I have a VIP pass. With my VIP pass Deepak and Satish were also allowed in. To your question as to who gave me the VIP pass to Carlos & Charlies, I answer you that I got it through the office of Carlos & Charlies. I do not remember with the help of who I got the VIP pass. I got to Carlos & Charlies about one to three times a week. When we entered Carlos & Charlies I was greeted by the girl who is printed on the picture. When we got in I saw that Natalee was dancing on the stage/podium. I saw that Natalee wasn't holding a drink. The friend of Natalee said to me to go and dance with Natalee because she fancied me. I took her word for it that Natalee was interested in me. Natalee made hand gestures for me to come and dance with her. I also did not see Natalee with a purse/handbag. She did this about seven to eight times. After I had refused to dance with Natalee Deepak, Satish and myself walked to the bar. There we bought a "Yard Whisky Coke". Such a drink costs U.S. $ 12,-. It is a plastic cup and it comes in different colours. I payed for all three drinks. I got a red cup but I do not remember now what colour cups Deepak and Satish got. Then the three of us walked back to the stage/podium. While I stood there Natalee saw me again. When she saw me she got down from the stage/podium and walked over to me. She grabbed my hand and asked me if I would go to the bar with her. On the way there she said to me that I had to drink a Jellyshots (handwritten with an arrow pointing to this section of the statement, it says "or body shot") off of her. I at that moment in time did know what a Jellyshot was but I did not know that she went and laid down on the bar and that I had to drink the Jellyshot from her belly button. When we arrived at the bar Natalee asked for a Jellyshot. Natalee then went and laid on top of the metal bar. The bartender handed me a small plastic container/cup in which was the Jellyshot that I placed on her belly button. After I had done that I sucked the Jellyshot from her belly button. Jellyshot is a jello with alcohol in it. I do not know what kind of alcohol is in it. When Natalee got onto the bar I thought that she was drunk. I could clearly tell that Natalee had been drinking. I could smell this from the smell that came out of Natalee's mouth. I also have to say that when I saw Natalee dancing I also noticed that she had been drinking. While I was talking to Natalee Satish stood beside me the entire time. Then Natalee said that she also wanted to drink a Jellyshot but the bartender told me that that bar was closed. After that Natalee and me walked to another bar that was still open at that time. I asked the bartender two shots of Bacardi 151. I still had the whisky coke in my hand. Natalee asked me if she should drink the Bacardi 151 in one go. I answered her affirmatively and she answered me that she would do it in two. Natalee said to me that she needed a "chaser" in order to drink the Bacardi. Natalee drank my whisky coke as a "chaser" and then she drank the Bacardi 151 in two goes. I payed for the two shots of Bacardi 151. I do not know where Deepak stood at that moment but according to me Satish was still standing beside me. I did not ask for another kind of alcoholic beverage because I always drink Bacardi 151. Bacardi 151 is 151 proof and that means that it is 75.5% alcohol. I payed U.S. $ 20,- for the two shots of Bacardi 151. After that Natalee, Satish and myself walked outside because Carlos & Charlies was almost empty. Outside I met an American tourist and he asked me if he could get my cup for free. I threw out the little cola that was still left in the cup and then I gave it to the tourist. Natalee took me by the hand and said that she wanted to go home with me. I had told her that I would take her home with me but I knew that that would be impossible because my dad and my brothers were home. Satish, Natalee and myself walked together when she asked me if she could come home with me. After I told Natalee that she was allowed to go home with me she told her friends that she would meet up later with them at the Holiday Inn Hotel. At approximately 01.15 hours, we walked from Carlos & Charlies to the outside. To your question whether I called someone from my mobile phone when we were standing outside "Carlos & Charlies, I answer that I did not. At that moment I had not called anyone with my mobile phone. To your question whether I know what Deepak and Satish did with their cups, I answer you that I do not know that. Then Satish, Natalee and myself walked to Deepak's car. Natalee and I walked hand in hand. When we arrived at the car Deepak was already waiting for us. We got into the car and before Deepak drove off I told Deepak and Satish that Natalee wanted to go to my house but that I could not take her there because my father and brothers were home. After I told Deepak and Satish this they said it was OK. Then I told the girl that I could not take her to my house but that I could come to her hotel room. She answered me that she did not want to go to her hotel room and that she wanted to go to the North coast to watch the sharks. To your question as to what Natalee meant by wanting to go to my house, I answer you the following. With this Natalee according to me meant that she wanted to have fleshly intercourse with me. I could see from her body language that she wanted to have fleshly intercourse me. I do not know if Natalee had used narcotics. To your question as to who was driving the car and where we were sitting, I answer you the following. Deepak was driving the car, Satish was sitting next to him on the passenger seat. I was sitting on the backseat behind Deepak and Natalee was sitting behind Satish. The volume of the radio was at the normal volume and the windows of the car were open. With normal volume I mean that we four in the car were able to talk to each other and hear each other. When we were sitting in the car Natalee did not speak with Deepak and Satish. Without asking me who Deepak and Satish were Natalee got into the car with them. I did tell Natalee that Deepak and Satish were my friends. I have to say that Natalee asked me if Deepak and Satish were rich people, because she was impressed by their car. We drove off the parking lot and Natalee saw that her friends and girlfriends were standing between Royal Plaza Mall and the bus stop. We couldn't turn left so Deepak had to drive another around the front of Carlos & Charlies again. After that Deepak was able to turn left and Deepak stopped his car on the public road between Royal Mall Plaza and the bus stop. When we were driving passed Natalee's friends she shouted out of the back window something like "Aruba". I did not hear what Natalee yelled at her friends. At that moment Natalee was very happy. I thought Natalee was attractive. I felt Natalee wanted to party on with me. Natalee held my hand in the car. After Natalee had yelled/shouted to the group a young man came up to the car. The young man shouted at Natalee to get out of the car. Natalee answered that she did not want to get out of the car. The young man for the second time said to Natalee to get out the car. Natalee refused again to get out of the car and said that she was going to stay with us. After this the young man didn't say anything anymore to Natalee. Without me saying anyting to Deepak, he started pulling away. After this we drove past the front of "Karma" and then north of the Reinnassance Hotel. There Deepak turned right and then right again into the direction of the hotels. We drove south of Royal Plaza Mall but I did not see Natalee's friends anymore. In the car Natalee told me that she was from "Alabama" and that her family was rich. She asked me if I was rich too. I answered her that I wasn't rich but that I wasn't poor either, I told her that my father was a judge and that my mother was a teacher teaching at the same school I was on. When Natalee was talking to me she was sitting with one leg into my direction. Natalee had her hand placed against her leg because I could look between her legs. Natalee wore a skirt and I suspect that she did not want us to look between her legs. I told Deepak to drive to the Lighthouse because Natalee had said to me that she wanted to see sharks. I had told Natalee that there were no sharks but she insisted that she had seen sharks already. At no point had Natalee said to me that she wanted to go to the North Coast. With Deepak's car one cannot drive to the North Coast because his car is too low. To your question why I got the idea to drive to the Lighthouse, I answer you that I did this because Natalee commented that she wanted to go see sharks. She also commented that we could give a a sightseeing tour. When we drove south of Certified Supermarkt and Kong Hing Natalee had let go of my hand and had put her hand on my right leg and rubbed. When we arrived at the stoplights and before we drove in front of Benihana/Hooters Natalee grabbed me by the chin and we started kissing each other. The kissed for some time. We kissed until we got in the vicinity of Mc Donalds. I stopped kissing to look where we were and it is possible that I asked Deepak and Satish is we were driving to the Lighthouse. Deepak and Satish answered me that we were. During the drive a white rental car drove alongside us for about five to six seconds and Deepak wondered what was up with these men. The V-car turned into the direction of the Holiday Inn and we kept driving straight on. Driving past the front of the Marriot Hotel Natalee half fell asleep/half dozed off. After that she startled awake* and I asked her if she was OK. To this she answered that everything was fine. After that we started kissing again. I kissed her first. After that Natalee placed her hands on the top of my legs and moved... *comment of the translator, With startled awake I mean that if a person falls halfway asleep/starts to doze off and suddenly jolts his/her head up again and waking up, that is what I mean with "startled awake", the sudden waking up from falling asleep/dozing off. ...her hand into the direction of my penis. I placed my left hand at that moment in time between the inside of her leg. I started stroking her breasts with my right hand. Natalee was wearing a bra. I did not put my hand into her bra. Natalee had normal size breasts. Beyond the Marriot Hotel and into the direction of Tierra del Sol I had fingered Natalee. With my fingers I pushed Natalee's panty to the side and fingered her with two fingers. According to me she was shaved because I did not feel any hair. I first stuck my middle finger inside and then I put my index finger inside. While I was doing this Natalee and I kept kissing. I fingered Natalee for about one to two minutes and then pulled my hand out of her panty and placed my hand on her hip. I stopped fingering Natalee because I found it improper/not nice towards Deepak and Satish. I started kissing her again and after that Natalee asked me if Deepak and Satish were my slaves. I answered her that they weren't my slaves. Natalee then said that her parents had a plantation and that to her black people were slaves. To your question as to what panty Natalee was wearing, I answer you the following. Natalee wore a dark blue panty. According to me they were embroidered panties and according to me these were flowers. To your question as to what Deepak and Satish were doing while I was fingering Natalee, I answer to you that they did nothing. I wasn't watching Deepak and Satish while I was fingering Natalee. When I was fingering Natalee in the car the volume of the music was not loud. Natalee could hear me when I was talking to her in the car. To your question whether Deepak, Satish of myself called anyone on the way to the Lighthouse, I answer you that we did not. It is possible that I did receive a message from Flor. While we were driving in the direction of the Lighthouse and were close to the dunes, Natalee fell half asleep/dozed off again. When she startled awake again she asked me where we were and I answered her that we were at the Lighthouse. Natalee then said to me that we should take her to the Holiday Inn Hotel because she had to travel the next day. We drove up to the lighthouse and then we took the same road down again towards the Holiday Inn. While we were driving in the direction/towards the hotel, she dozed off several times/fell half asleep several times and we didn't kiss anymore. We drove back to the Holiday Inn Hotel to drop Natalee off there. When we arrived there Deepak parked on the left lane and not on the right lane that lies in front of the Lobby. Natalee got out the back door on the right side and she fell to the floor. I got out of the same car door and helped her get up. After I did that Natalee said to me not to touch her and she walked into the direction/towards the lobby. I saw that she touched a pillar. We did not kiss and I got back into the car. Then we drove home. Later, when we just found out she had gone missing Deepak and Satish told me that they had seen a guard dressed in black when we were driving off. According to them the guard also had a walkie talkie in his hands. Deepak and Satish said that the guard walked towards/in the direction of Natalee. (with Natalee is meant the missing woman named "Natalee Ann HOLLOWAY"; comment Jacobs). I have to say that while we were driving past the front of the container harbour, Natalee told me that her mother was the sister of "Hitler". I laughed and did not ask her what she meant by that. She had said this to me about five times. To your question as to what route Deepak took to drop me off home, I answer you the following. After Deepak left the hotel grounds he took a left and then kept driving until we got to the stoplights of Mc. Donalds. There he turned left again and he drove into the direction of the police station in Noord and then he turned right until he got to the new stadium and there he turned left and brought me home. You are informing me that when I was first interviewed as a witness that I told the detective that Natalee and me got out of the car close to/near Fisherman's Hut and walked in the sea. To your question as to what I can state about that, I answer you that I did not say that. It also isn't in my witness statement. If you have more questions, I am willing to answer them. This is my statement that is truthful/this is my statement that I have truthfully given. On June 10th 2005, at approximately 14.30 hours, we, the reporting officers, interviewed the suspect J.A.P. van der SLOOT for further information. His statement that he made in dutch was transcribed by me, Jacobs, and goes as follows. Before we, the reporting officers, started with the interview, I, Jacobs, informed the suspect that he was not obliged to make a statement. I also informed him that this interview was being taped. "Although I have been informed by you that I am not obliged to answer any questions, I am prepared to make a truthful statement. To your question since when the brothers Deepak and Satish are friends with me, I answer to you the following. About two or three months ago I got acquainted with Deepak and Satish KALPOE. Through a friend of mine named "Koen GOTTENBOS" I got acquainted with Deepak and Satish. I have known Koen for more than ten (10) years. Koen's nickname is "Cul". Another friend named "Jaime CARRASQUILLO" nicknamed "Betto" had given Koen that nickname. To your question as to where I met Deepak and Satish, my answer to you is that if I am not mistaken I met them their workplace. To your question whether I went out with Deepak and Satish, my answer to you is that I did not go out with them immediately when I met them. After that Deepak, Satish and myself went out once a week. We usually went to "Carlos & Charlies", "Tantra" and "Bahia". We usually went to these places to dance and to drink. Sometimes "Freddy" and "Koen" went with us to those nite-clubs. When we went out we drove in Deepak's car. Deepak and Satish were the ones that drove Deepak's car. Sometimes we also went with "Jaime CARRASQUILLO" nicknamed "Betto". Betto also drives a Honda. To your question as to what kind of car Deepak has, I answer you the following. Deepak has a silver, four door car of the make Honda Civic. The windows of the car are not tinted. Betto drives a green coloured four door car of the make Honda Civic. To your question as to how Deepak's car looked when Deepak, Satish and myself went out on May 29th 2005, I answer you that the car looked clean. Deepak's car is always clean. Deepak and Satish clean that car all the time. On the Friday night before they go out they clean the car. Deepak is the owner of the car. I have never helped to clean their car. Deepak and Satish drive with the car and they clean it themselves. To your question as to when Deepak bought his car and from whom he had bought it, I answer you that I do not know this. I haven't known Deepak and Satish long enough to know this. To your question as to whether Deepak's car isn't too cramped for me to sit in, I answer you that is it. If Deepak, Satish and myself go out I usually sit next to the driver on the front seat because my legs are long. To your question as to whether on May 30th in the nightly hours, I found it too cramped on the backseat to finger the missing girl "Natalee Ann HOLLOWAY", I answer you that Deepak and Satish put forward their seats because they are not tall. With the seats moved forward I get more room to sit properly. I myself am 1.96 meters tall. To your question how much alcoholic beverages I can drink before I get drunk, I answer you the following. I can handle my alcohol. Since my 15th year I have been drinking alcohol. I am a social drinker. I think that before I start feeling tipsy I have to drink a crate of beer. I cannot answer you how many rum and whisky's I have to drink before I get drunk. If I drink normal glasses of alcoholic beverages I would have to drink twenty (20) to thirty (30) glasses before I get drunk. If I get drunk I feel tired and want to sleep. I do not get irritated when I get drunk. To your question as to how much alcoholic drinks Deepak and Satish must drink before they get drunk, I answer you the following. I have seen that after drinking five (5) glasses of whisky coke Deepak and Satish got tipsy. After ten (10) glasses of whisky coke they are pretty much drunk. I have seen Deepak drunk twice (2). Both times this was at "Carlos & Charlies". If Deepak gets drunk he becomes aggressive and irritated. Sometimes Deepak wants to go home and sometimes he wants to fight. Deepak once in front of "Carlos & Charlies". I am sure that this was the only time he wanted to fight with others. Deepak cannot fight. He gets aggressive but he cannot fight. When Deepak in front of Carlos & Charlies wanted to fight with the man in front of Carlos & Charlies wanted to fight. If Deepak drinks he gets quickly irritated. To your question whether I saw Deepak fight, I answer you the following. I have seen him box at home in my place. I have two pairs of boxing gloves at home and I have seen Deepak box with Satish and Koen. Deepak is to weak to box. Satish wins at boxing with Deepak and Koen beats both Deepak and Satish at boxing. I box with Betto and with Koen. Usually we are equally matched between the three of us. Sometimes I let/allow my girlfriend "Flor" and her sister Amanda Metz to box. An Aruban girl named "Jilaila" lives with Flor and Amanda and she watched some of those fights. To your question whether I have a friend who has a boat, I answer you that the father of Koen has a boat. The father of Koen has a speedboat. Joran Van der Sloot, June 14, 2005 PROCES-VERBAAL (sixth statement of suspect) We, Dennis Domenico JACOBS and Luigi Angelo Giovanni CROES, head officer and officer first class of the Aruban Police Force, first mentioned attached to the Robbery Project Team (Atraco Team) and last mentioned attached to the section often occurring crime District 2, state the following. On June 14th, at approximately 10.00 hours, we the reporting officers, interviewed the suspect Joran Andreas Petrus van der SLOOT born in Arnhem, the Netherlands on August 6th 1987, without occupation student (International School of Aruba) and living Montanja 19 in Aruba, for further information. His statement was made in dutch and was transcribed by me, CROES and goes as follows, Before we, the reporting officers, started the interview, I , CROES, notified the suspect that he was not obliged to make a statement. I also informed him that this statement was being recorded on tape. You have just old me that you wanted to ask me about times. I can state the following. When we, on May 30th, stopped in Deepak's car in front of my house, it was about 01.40 am. At that moment in time Deepak, Satish, Natalee and myself were in Deepak's car. When Natalee and myself were dropped off at the Marriot Hotel by Satish and Deepak it was approximately 01.50 am. After we were dropped off Natalee and myself walked to the beach in front of the Marriot Hotel. While we were walking I noticed there was sand in my shoes. I took off my shoes and my socks. I had placed my socks in my shoes and walked with my shoes in my hand further on the beach. Natalee and myself stood for a short while at the waters edge and kissed. I had walked back to Natalee. She was still sleeping. I laid down next to her. At about 03.30 am Deepak came to Fisherman's Huts to pick me up. When I was sitting in the car I told Deepak that the girl was laying on the beach and that she was being annoying/irritating because she didn't want to go back to her hotel. Deepak asked me if I fucked her. I answered Deepak that I didn't because I didn't have a condom on me. Deepak also asked me what I was going to do with her. On May 30th 2005, at approximately 03.45 am I went to sleep. At approximately 06.30, I woke up. Between 03.45 am and 06.30 am I talked to no-one on my mobile phone. At approximately 06.45 am I got on the bus. Between 06.30 am and 06.45 am I did not talk to anyone on my mobile phone. At approximately 08.00 am, I arrived at school on the bus. I had slept the entire time the bus took to get to school. During the ride to school I don't think I called anyone with my mobile phone. I do think that I had received a message from "Flor". I did not loan my phone out to anyone to make a phone call. I am sure of that. My school starts at 08.00 am and ends at 14.45 pm. During the hours between 08.00 am and 14.45 pm I do not think I called anybody. If I sent someone messages between 08.00 am and 14.45 pm than it could only have been to "Elaine" or "Flor" and nobody else. On Monday, May 30th 2005, I did not talk to anyone at school about having left behind Natalee. Approximately 14.45 pm, I got back onto the school bus to be driven home. I arrived at home at approximately 16.00 pm. It is possible that I called someone or that someone called me. It is also possible that I sent or received messages. I am sure Satish didn't and Deepak it is possible. If I had talked to Deepak then I would have asked him what he had been doing that day or what he was going to do. At approximately 17.00 pm, I was dropped off by my father at the Raquet Club. Between the hours of 16.00 pm and 17.00 pm, I had done my homework and also "chatted". I do not remember with who I chatted. It could be possible that I chatted to Deepak because he does that a lot from where he works. I am not sure about that. Between the hours of 17.00 pm and 18.00 pm I was in the gym. I was talking there with "Koen" nickname "Cul". We spoke that it was cowardly/weak and that no one was there. She knows my face and had told me that she had watched me play poker and that she thought I played well/good. She had then told me that it was 20.00 pm. I met Andre and his dad at the Casino. Andre and myself stayed inside the casino and walked around until the tournament started. The tournament started at 20.15 pm. I was at a table with ten (10) people. At the beginning of the game everyone had to give their registration receipt to the "Dealer". Thirty (30) minutes later I had lost. I then went to play black jack for about 15 minutes. I had won U.S. 30,-. With the U.S. 30,- I went back to the poker game to play again. The second time I played poker I was in the game for about 1 hour. After an hour I had gone out. I stayed and waited for Andre because he was also losing. In the meantime I had called Guido. I was busy playing poker when I was called by Andre. He asked me where I was. I had told him that I was at the Radison Hotel. He told me he would come by there. Deepak had also asked me where I was. I told him that I was at the Radison Casino. Deepak told me that he would be there as soon as possible. At approximately 01.00 am Deepak came over to me. Andre was there too. I was on a roll. I played for about another hour. At approximately 02.00 am I stopped playing. I had "cashed out" my chips. Deepak wanted to go and play black jack. I didn't know why but he wanted to go to the Wyndham Casino. According to him he had no luck at the Radisson Casino. At approximately 02.30 am, Deepak and myself were walking to his car. He was there in his Honda Civic. The car was parked in the parking lot of the Radisson Hotel. Guido left to take Andre home. We drove towards the Wyndham Casino. When we were just about to get out of the car, my father called. My father then told me that the police were at my house and that they were looking for a missing girl. I had then told my father that we would be coming to the house. I right away told Deepak that a girl had gone missing. Deepak had said immediately that it must be the girl from last night. I straight away thought of Natalee who I had left behind at the beach. Deepak told me straight away that it would be better if we would say that the three of us dropped of the girl at the Holiday Inn Hotel. We then drove home. At approximately 03.00 am Deepak and myself arrived home in his Honda Civic. When we arrived there we could see no-one was there so I called my dad. My dad said he was driving towards the Wyndham. I then told him that I was home. My father told me to stay there at home. Then Deepak and myself waited for about 5 minutes. Then approximately 5 cars approached. There were two police officers among them. There were a couple of people that said that they were FBI. Natalee's mother was also there. Then Deepak and myself were attacked with questions. At a certain point Deepak was cursed out by one of the men. Then my father said that enough is enough, that the police officers were the ones with authority here. At my house I had talked to a man, I don't know if he was the father. I had told him that from Carlos & Charlies we had dropped her off at the Hotel. I cannot remember telling him that I fingered Natalee. After that we had to go with the police to the police station in Noord. Deepak, my father and myself went to the police station. At the police station in Noord we did not say what had happened to the girl. We did say that we dropped off Natalee at the Holiday Inn. After that we had to go to the Holiday Inn. He had told me that he had given his statement and that the police was on their way to pick up Satish in order for him to make his statement. Deepak also told me that he had told Satish what he had to say to the police. I had asked Deepak if he could come to the Raquet Club. He said no, that he was going to go to work now and that after that he would go and pick up Satish at Bubali. I don't think I said anything else to him. I did not go to the tennis lesson. Together with Flor I went into the pool of the Raquet Club. At approximately 20.00 pm, I was picked up by my father at the Raquet Club. Then we drove home. On Tuesday May 31st 2005, I think I only had contact with Deepak over the phone. I had called Deepak in the evening to tell him that my father had said that our phones would most likely be monitored by the FBI and that the FBI would be able to read our "Chat" conversations. I think that Deepak said it was OK. I did "Chat". After that I went to bed at approximately 23.00 pm. I slept well that night. On June 24th 2005, at approximately 10.00 hours, we, the reporting officers, went to the correctional facility Aruba to pick up suspect "Joran Andreas Petrus van der SLOOT" to be questioned. There we, the reporting officers, were informed by the watch-commander on duty of the KIA that the suspect J.A.P. van der SLOOT refused to go with us. The suspect J.A.P. van der SLOOT talked to us subsequently, and informed us that he did not want to go with us to the police station in Oranjestad to make a statement. The suspect J.A.P. van der SLOOT gave us as a reason: - he would only go with us, the reporting officers if is father was released; - that his mother and his lawyer had advised him on behalf of his father to not make any more statements and to invoke his right to not make statements; - that he would receive a message from his father's lawyer when he should make statements; - that according to his lawyer, if he would stop making statements, his father would be released in two days; - that he listens to his families advise; - that the lawyers "Antonio CARLO" and "OOMEN" are good friends of his father - that these two lawyers out of friendship with is father would defend them - that he know that if he would make a statement he could bring his father into trouble - that his father suffers from bad memory and that because of that his and his fathers statements would not correspond - that his father even can't remember what kind of clothes he himself wore the day before - that his lawyer had said that the police arrested his father because according to the police his father had picked him up in the late night hours of May 30th 2005 at McDonalds - that he wished the police would leave his friends and family alone/stop bothering his family and friends - that he would only answer new questions asked by investigators - that his lawyer had advised him only to make statements in his presence - that his lawyer had started a lawsuit so that he would only make a statement with the lawyer present - that he wouldn't come with us today because his mother would be visiting him at 14.00 hours that day - that if he gets a visit from his mother he would discuss making another statement with her - that only if his father, by way of his lawyer would say he should make a statement he would do so - that he was waiting for the statement of his father and after that make another statement. On Friday, June 24th, at approximately 18.40 hours, we, the reporting officers, interrogated/interviewed the suspect: Joran Andreas Petrus van der SLOOT born in Arnhem, the Netherlands on August 6th 1987, without occupation student (International School of Aruba) and living Montanja 19 on Aruba, for further information. His statement that was given in Papiamento was translated and transcribed by me, JACOBS, into dutch and goes as follows. Before we, the reporting officers, started the interview, I, JACOBS, informed the suspect that he was not obliged to make any statement. I, JACOBS, also informed the suspect that this interview is being taped. "You are informing me that you have several questions for me and want to hear an answer to those questions. I am prepared to give them. To your question whether I know a girl named "Karen" and whether I had a sexual relation with her, I answer you the following. Ik know the girl named "Karen". I do not know Karen's last name. I had a sexual relation with her but I do not remember the time period. (With Karen we mean the witness "Karen Theresa Paulina MARTINA"; remark JACOBS). I have to state that I wanted to have a sexual relationship with Karen but that I did not have a condom on me at that precise moment. After Karen had given me the blow-job Freddy ZEDAN called me on my mobile phone. Freddy told me that they were going to go home and asked me how I would get home. According to me Freddy also told me that he was at that moment in time sitting in the car of "Chato". The name of "Chato" is "Leonardo" but I do not know his last name. According to me Chato is from Mexico. Freddy, Karen and me got a ride from Chato. Chato and Freddy were in the front and Karen and me got into the back. I had a Karen to give me another blow-job, something that she did then do. Chato saw then that Karen was giving me head in his pick-up. Joran lives on the address Montanja 19. He lives in his own apartment. We, Satish and me, entered Joran's because he wasn't ready yet. He was still printing a project/something for school. We were inside Joran's place for about fifteen minutes. After that we drove to "Carlos & Charlies". I had parked my car in the parking lot behind "Carlos & Charlies" with the front side of my car parked towards the wall of "Carlos & Charlies". We got out and walked towards "Carlos & Charlies". At that time it was approximately 00:30 hours. We walked straight to the bar. Joran had bought us something to drink. He hadn't asked us what we wanted, because he already knew what we liked to drink. He had bought three "YARDS" with whisky coke. We walked to the podium/stage. By the way the girl was dancing, I assumed that she was reasonable intoxicated. Joran had made it known by hand gesture that he didn't want to come to her. After the song was over, the girl walked over to Joran. The girl was a bit unsteady on her feet when walking up to Joran. I noticed that she was a pretty girl. I saw that Joran and the girl were talking. I heard that the topic was dancing. I saw Joran laugh and saw that Joran said something back to her. I did not hear what Joran said back to her. I looked around and did not pay attention to what they were talking about. A friend of mine came walking up to me. His name is Eli and I don't know his last name. He used to me in my class at the MAVO/BAVO. Eli talked to me for about five to ten minutes. Eli then walked away. When I turned around Satish and Joran were nowhere to be seen. They hadn't even told that they were leaving. I looked for them for a short while, but hadn't found them. I was in the bathroom for a little while. I have no patience to look. During that time the girl stuck her head out of the car and yelled something. I had not understood what she had shouted. I looked into the direction she had been yelling to. I saw a group of people standing there, there were both boys and girls there. It was a group of more than ten people. I assumed that they belonged with her group. One of the boys responded and walked towards us. I hear the boy say: " What are you doing there. Are you crazy, get out of the car."(loosely translated: What are you doing. Are you nuts/crazy. Get out of that car). She didn't want to get out. I hadn't responded to it. I kept on driving at walking pace and stopped my car at the zebra crossing. I had done this because I thought it would be better if she went with her friends. To prevent problems because her friends clearly didn't want her coming with us. To your question as to what I mean by problems, I can state the following. The kind of problem that I have now gotten into. People would think that she would have gone with us against her will. She had been more drunk than she had been previously. I thought that she talked too much. She talked pretty loud, I could not hear what she was talking about. I had told her in English that if her friends thought it better she'd go with them, that it would be best if she did. She refused to go with them. She said I could also drop her off, seeing as I owned a car. It is possible that I turned down the volume of my radio, or else I would have had to shout at her. I then drove on. I drove into the first road immediately after "Choose a Name". This road leads to "mainstreet". I had turned up the volume of the car radio again. On "mainstreet" I turned right. At the intersection I turned left in the direct mail road (with main road the L.G. Smith Boulevard is meant; comment reporting officers). On the main road I turned right, towards "Royal Plaza". I had planned to drop the girl off with her friends. When I came back to the intersection where her friend had been standing, I found they had left from there. That was at approximately 01.20 hours. In English I asked in general what we were going to do. She said in English that she wanted to see sharks at the "lighthouse". I assumed she wanted to see the "Lighthouse". I hadn't thought anything else. I drove into the direction of the "Lighthouse" with a speed of between seventy to eighty kilometers an hour. I know this because I have made it a habit to look at the speedometer. I drove into the direction of the "Lighthouse" over the main road. On the way there I looked into the rear view mirror and saw that Joran and the girl were french kissing, that was in the vicinity of where "Hooters" used to be. I had been looking into the rear view mirror regularly looking at the traffic situation. The times that I looked back I saw there were French kissing. They were not kissing constantly because I heard them talking too. While they were kissing, I just thought that it was Joran's girlfriend and didn't think anything else of it. I had constantly driven on asphalted roads. I am very careful with my car and I don't drive on roads with a lof of potholes and bumps. It was for first time I had driven with this car out to the "Lighthouse". At the "Lighthouse" I continued to follow the asphalted road. This road leads past the restaurant back up to the "lighthouse". Arriving at the "Lighthouse" I had started to drive more slowly. Just before we drove past the restaurant I said in English that this is the "Lighthouse". Nobody responded. I looked around to the back of the car and saw that Joran and the girl were French kissing. Joran had his hand under the girls skirt. According to me it was his left hand. I didn't think it strange, I had seen this before with friends who took girls with them in my car. At the section where there was no street lighting, Joran told me that the girl had fallen asleep. I quickly turned around and saw that she was really sleeping. I asked Joran in dutch how that was possible. I told Joran to wake up the girl to ask her where she was saying in order for me to drop her off. After I asked Joran where she was staying, about one to two minutes had passed before Joran told me that she was staying at the "Holiday Inn" hotel. Just to be sure, I repeated "Holiday Inn". Satish also asked Joran: "Holiday Inn"! I then accelerated until I hit ninety kilometers an hour. The exhaust of my car makes a lot of noise. The faster I drive the noisier it becomes. I heard something fall. I heard Joran say in Papiamentu shit she has fallen down. Joran exited through the same car door as where she had fallen down to help her up. That was the right back door. I had seen the girl on the ground. I saw Joran help her. I saw that the girl turned around and pushed Joran into the car. I heard that she said something to Joran. I was unable to hear what she had said to Joran. The car radio had been turned down somewhat, the volume was maybe at the nine level or something like that. Joran looked surprised. She walked away from Joran. What I saw is that she was walking towards the lobby. I did not see her enter the lobby. I saw that she leaned against a pillar with one hand.
