Low(er) carbohydrate diets?

Has anyone here done Atkins or South Beach or whatever, any of the low carb diets? I know a man (as I am female myself) who lost a ton of weight on Atkins induction (the really strict part of the diet). It is supposed to go on for 2 weeks, maybe a bit more, but he did it for 3 months and lost 40 pounds. I have a friend who claimed to lose 6 pounds in one week on South Beach. And one more friend did Atkins induction to lsoe weight fast then switched over to Weight Watchers and counted points/calories to keep it off and lose more.

I am interested in what a low carb can do as far as how lean can I get in comjunction with yoga/pilates and running. I can't seem to weight less than 115 pounds anymore. It bugs me.

Did it stay off when you went back to eating more normally? No one can stay on that for longterm....it's very unenjoyable for me. I've lost 5 pounds since Monday.
edit - TMI.

I was very successful on Atkins. You cannot and SHOULD not stay on induction for more than a few weeks though.

Did I gain it back? Yeh and then some. It's a good plan, though, and once you are used to it, it is NOT difficult. You get used to life w/o carbs...or rather life w/o the "bad" carbs.

All that being said, I still think the old tried and true Weight Watchers is the best diet out there. It's sensible and balanced, and basically you can eat anything you want, within reason. I personally always loved the "support group" idea of the weekly meetings, and the weekly weigh-in and keep the chart of your weight.

Weight Watchers has worked best for me and I've kept it off.

What I have noticed is that after just a week I have lost 6 pounds- and I did not try to stay under 20g carbs as induction states but I actually just tried to stay around 25-30 at most. But what I really notice? I used to hate artificial sweeteners and diet drinks but after just one week of cutting out bread, potatoes, starches, and sugars, I almost can't tell I am drinking a diet soda. That in itself is going to help me because I suddenly can drink water and zero calorie drinks. Yay.

I find that I LOVE Diet Sunkist Orange soda when I am craving sugar, it really helps. When in restaurants diet fountain cokes are good. Also at home, diet Cheerwine (in my area) is good.

It's the diet drinks that are saving me from eating sugar!

But I'm not much of a meat lover. Oh boy do I want some bread and donuts too. Twisted Evil
