Ward suggested pond draining.
T.J. WARD, P.I. FOR HOLLOWAY TWITTY FAMILY: Well, one of the things that I figure that the witness that I found saw the car that was used in the disappearance and on the 28th, 29th and 30th. And it just seemed a little strange to me that a week later the same car shows up three or four times in the same area around that pond.
Those boys were there looking for something. And there's a good possibility that the body could be buried, because there was very, very little water in there around the 29th and 30th of May, and shortly before the storm hit and the hurricane, that's what caused all the water to be there.
And it's very soft and very easy to dig and put somebody underground there. But like Dr. Henry Lee says, it would be very, very good if the body is there, that it would be preserved by the ground itself if it is underground.
KING: When you were there, did you suggest doing this?
WARD: Well, I had brought to the attention, when I found the second witness, I took all the information after taking a statement and turned that statement over to the Aruban authorities and the FBI. And I think this prompted the lake to be drained and hopefully we'll find some answers.
It's really also strange that the whole investigation has been surrounded by the beach at the Marriott, which is directly across the street from where this pond is. And taking the time from 1:30 to 2:30 there is a very remote possibility we may be on the right page in the right area of what's going on.

I'm waiting to see the complete letter that Janssen wrote to the U.S. Justice Dept. in Oct. Think that will be "leaked"? Remember Greta read part of it on her show that one night. Janssen said there was no evidence a crime had been committed, and she wanted to see all Beth's phone records, Natalee's yearbook, and some other stuff.
I've always been really curious about the full content of that letter...would love to see it.

By mid-July, with Joran still languishing in the San Nicolas jail, undergoing daily questioning by Aruban, Dutch, and F.B.I. officials, a motley crowd of television producers, search teams, private eyes, and beach bums each determined to solve the case. One was Arthur Wood, a retired Secret Service agent who lives outside Ocala, Florida, and who spent his evenings glued to the Holloway coverage. In mid-June, Wood e-mailed some thoughts to Jossy Mansur, managing editor of the Aruban newspaper El Diario, who had latched onto the Twitty bandwagon as part of his own feud with the Aruban government. Eager to develop leads, Mansur invited Wood to Aruba, and put him on his payroll.
Wood began chatting up photographers, stringers, and reporters. The most intriguing lead, he decided, was a rumor that one of the Kalpoe brothers had confessed to killing Natalee—sort of—to a fellow prisoner while in the Aruban jail. The prisoner had heard that a relative's gardener, named Cumpa, had seen Joran and the Kalpoes burying Natalee's body in a vacant lot near the Marriott. When the Kalpoe brother was told the story, he supposedly went ashen and flipped over the dominoes they were playing with. Wood spent most of July tracking the elusive Cumpa. There were stories that he had fled to Venezuela, that he had disappeared, that he might have been killed.
The Mansur "investigative team," including Wood, Eduardo Mansur, and other Mansur employees and family friends, began holding nightly strategy sessions at the team's de facto headquarters: Hooters. One night they were inside poring over rumors when a Mansur cousin's teenage son suddenly blurted out, "I know Cumpa! He's my uncle's gardener!"
The boy hopped in Eduardo Mansur's truck and led Wood to a large seaside home owned by Jossy Mansur's cousin Eric Mansur, a wealthy importer. Wood found Cumpa, whose name turned out to be Carlos, in the yard. "He tells me that on that night, May 30, he couldn't sleep," Wood recalls. "It was 2:30 and it was so hot—he didn't have air-conditioning—he said, 'I got up, I told my wife I'm going to my boss's house,'" which was air-conditioned.
According to Carlos, while driving to Eric Mansur's home a little before three that morning, he took a shortcut, a dirt road through a vacant lot beside the Marriott. To his surprise, he found a car blocking the road. Beside the car were two large mounds of dirt. When he peered into the car, Carlos said, he recognized Joran and the Kalpoes. He said they covered their faces. He then drove on.
Carlos reluctantly climbed into Wood's truck and allowed himself to be driven to police headquarters. He disappeared inside for four hours.
hahahaha |
So is this true? Or is this another Mansur's story? |
Considering the sources.....Jossy and Art Woods???? Not a snowballs chance in hell of it being real.

Yep I know it for sure now. Guido Wever who use to work at the Excelcior Casino as "dealer", who use to play tennis at the Aruba Raquet club, and who is the son of a political party's leader (Allianca???) was detained in the Netherlands. A Colombian man by the name of Carlos Alberto Penata Ramos was detained in Aruba.

Werent they looking for a lost shoe in the pond also? I think I remember hearing that way early on, before I had any idea what the significance was.
It also begs the question, why didnt they finish draining the pond? That never made sense. They spent a week draining it and then quit while there was still a lot of standing water, before the bottom could be dredged.
BTW, the draining of the pond I think is what got me hooked on this case. I thought for sure they were going to find Natalee in that exercise so I watched every day, thinking that would be the day. After that I just had to check daily for updates

I'm confused. (don't say it!!) Is the gardner witness Carlos the same Carlos that was detained for several months, mostly unbeknownst to the public? Please just a straight answer.

Because, IIRC, the pond was supplied by the tidal action of the ocean and would have been impossible to fully drain without building a cofferdam. Natalee didn't run away to the VDS' cesspool, she didn't run away to that pond either.

From what I understand, it was stated on a radio station in Holland that he was arrested at the same time that Guido was.
This is also when the press went on lock-down in Aruba.

No confusion, Sandra.
I remember it being stated here that it was reported on the radio. Of course, nothing was ever written about it again.'
