HANNAH WOLFSON
News staff writer
PALM BEACH, Aruba
U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Vestavia Hills, said Saturday there were circumstances surrounding Holloway's disappearance that warranted the FBI being heavily involved. He declined to give details.
"The circumstances were disturbing," said Bachus, who formally requested the FBI's involvement. "I can't get into it, but it's something the family is aware of. There was an immediate recognition that this was not simply a teen who wandered off." |
I'll at least give you credit for getting off your lazy ass, finding the quote, and admitting you were wrong. So what do you think Spence meant? |
I think he was made aware of the video confirmation that Natalee was not returned to the HI as claimed by Joran and the Kalpoes. This was also the same day the security guards were arrested. That indeed is disturbing.

If you think he was implying that the H/T are somehow complicit in Natalee's disappearance, think again because he also said:
I am not a spokesman for the Holloway family, they are my constituents. I think they have done an admirable job speaking for themselves and representing the Holloway case and their daughter. We all know about their efforts and I've not tried to substitute for them. |
Thank you for the additional quote and your opinion of Spencer as a gracious host. Now, what do you suppose he meant by his specific quote that seemed to mean a whole lot of something in its specificity?

I did so and I accept your interpretation of what Spencer was saying. It still doesn't address the issue of why he felt the MB students needed to start cooperating, as if they hadn't been before, but I guess that's just one of those little loose ends.

They did ask me for two things, one of the things that they've consistently asked for is there are people they want to talk to in the United States and apparently over three (3) months ago through the State Department channels they requested that. I know there are people in my district who've said I don't want them coming up here and talking to my son or my daughter but in a criminal investigation where there's a missing young lady you talk to the people who were around her in the last few hours. |
Heli,
I do not believe he pulled this out of a hat. I believe that people actually told him they didn't want LE or FBI talking to their "darlings." |
Of course he didn't pull it out of his hat. He was more concerned about pulling the corn cob out of his ass that had been shoved up there during the closed door meeting - the meeting the FBI made a strong point of not inviting Beth Twitty to. For some odd reason. |
Nor Beth Twitty's attorney who she'd requested be present. |
Dompig was upset that he wasnt invited also. Far as I know none of the suspects or their attorneys were invited either. This was a meeting among the investigators, not the parties, suspects or representatives of the victims.
We've been over this as you know but note Bachus' repeated references to "murder investigations."

I think that speaks for itself. The MB students had not cooperated fully and he was asking that they do so.

I think most of us know it was a meeting requested by
Bachus and he says that in his presser.
We also learned that Beth Twitty wanted to be present
or in the alternative that her attorney be present. Both
requests were denied. I recall she was quite insensed
to have been denied a presence at that meeting.

She may have been and that's just too damn bad. It wouldnt have been proper for her to be there and I think at that point they had every reason to believe that she could not be counted on to keep confidential information confidential.

And you have to ask why?
Why would they not cooperate fully?
What would motivate them to respond this way?

But ViVi, if J2K were so totally responsible for Natalee's death/dismemberment/disappearance/abduction by aliens, why wouldn't the students have been 100% cooperative? It's not like they'd have anything to hide.

Twitty and/or her attorney didn't belong there, I agree
and for much more than the leak factor.

John Gotti wasn't invited in to hang out with the FBI guys who were bugging the Ravenite Social Club.

Indignation, entitlement, vicitmization, etc. -- any number of reasons. I think it was most likely some folks who didnt want their reputations tarnished by public revelation of their kids' drug use and drinking habits.
I also think Beth has tried to keep a tight reign on the flow of information and public opinion -- I don't think in the end it has been particularly helpful, but I dont believe it was for anything sinister like a coverup of the MB kids' involvement either. I believe she saw that line of inquiry as misdirected.
I dont think she told the kids not to talk to the FBI -- we've seen that they did give many statements early in the case and on an ongoing basis. I think the information control was directed at statements made in the press.

Odd behavior for a woman that wanted to pull out all stops, including the boycott of a soverign nation, to find her runway daughter.

And then there's the irony of Joe T's representation of both Joran and John Gotti -- since we're making comparisons.
ETA: AND their names all begin with "J" !!!!!!!!

Curacao judge yet to rule on FBI access to Holloway case files
A judge from Curacao has not yet ruled on the FBI’s increased involvement in the case of missing Mountain Brook teen Natalee Holloway. Defense lawyers protested Aruban authorities’ decision to hand over transcripts of interrogations and other documents to the FBI. Transfer of the evidence occurred after Aruban Prime Minister Nelson Oduber asked the country’s attorney general to give the FBI more access to the case files.
The judge was expected to rule today but had not done so by the close of business, said Mariaine Croes, spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office. She said that meant the decision would likely come Monday at the earliest. |
OK, that's great. So what do you think Spence meant by the statements you quoted earlier? |
I think he was playing the gracious host to his foreign guests. He was being a politician and didnt say a whole lot of anything.
JD,
He is not associating himself with the family nor is he saying he supports them. Look at Riley, he did what they wanted but Bachus is not saying he is supporting the family. Yes, they've done an admirable job speaking..........all over the media.

I believe she really thought she was helping keep the focus where it belonged which would more likely lead to finding her daughter.
At a point also it became pretty clear that there was a campaign out of Aruba to smear Beth and the MB kids (to a lesser degree) and promote the Happy Island as safe and tourist friendly. Heck, look at Dompigs interviews just before he was relieved of duty.
Given that, I can see where it looked like the ALE was simply trying to dig up dirt for the smear campaign through interviews of the MB kids. Then, the behavior doesnt look quite so odd.

Was the campaign out of Aruba that you refer to as overt as Beth's Secret Mission to "destroy Aruba" because "they should have never messed with me."? I don't recall Dompig or any of the other Aruban participants in this sad circus mentioning such a thing.
