O/T Account for VC

The account has been set up with PayPal. Donations can be made for the following email address:

HelpingVC@hotmail.com

VC and Joy would rather donations not go to them individually or to Refugees to avoid anyone miscontruing the purpose. This is for anyone that WISHES to give to VC, nothing is being forced on anyone.

I have given my personal information to Joy to insure trust for this account.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding.

For those posters that do not know, Victims Cry had a tree fall on her car yesterday morning. The picture can be found at this link:

http://www.refugeesunleashed.net/viewtopic.php?p=164125#164125

I have set up the account in my original post because VC cannot replace her car easily due to disability. She lives out in the boonies and needs her car to get around.

The goal is to help VC to afford a down payment for another vehicle.

Thank you!

Does anyone have a ballpark estimate on how much $$$ is needed for a downpayment?

I'll send what I can (not a whole lot -- fixed income).

Just in case you are new to Paypal...

Go to the Paypal site, it is easy to set one up if you are not a member.
https://www.paypal.com/

If/when you are a member, you need to go to the tab "send money".

When that pops up, you will be asked for the email addy, enter that.

Enter the amount. Choose US or Canadian funds.

Category of purchase:
choose any one of the 3 bottom choices (I would suggest Quasi-cash)

Subject line and personal note optional.

That's it. Easy as pie Smile

Maybelline, I'm not really sure. The last time I bought a car $2000.00 was considered a good down payment. Of course that was a long time ago and I don't know what it would be today.

What I was hoping for when I wanted to set this up is $2000.00, HOWEVER the whole amount will go to VC, no matter when or if it gets to or exceeds this amount.

I will be updating people periodically on how much is in the account, so everyone will know.

FF, thank you so very much for posting that info. I've been so rattled today with trying to find the best option for accounts and never thought about the people that have never used paypal before. You're the bestest!!

NP, I am very good at spending money with Paypal (and I collect some from ebay sales from time to time as well).

Now, if I could only learn how not to blow the margins!!!! Can someone fix this or tell me what to do? Or re-post and I can delete this huge pic?

A down payment is based on the amount of car that a person is looking to purchase, as well as the credit score that the buyer has.

It is different in all situations.

There are actually many many factors that are taken into consideration in determining a down payment.

Thanks Karamel, I didn't realize all that. Yes, it's been a long time since I bought a car. Credit scores weren't known about back then, or I didn't know about them back then. Laughing

Piggybacking on Karamel now:

Any amount that someone wants to give is honestly fine, doesn't matter how small. I've never started something like this before and don't know if this figure is too high. While Medley has been given me great advice, there are some things I had to do myself and coming up with a figure was one of them.

Please, just give what you want. Whatever is given WILL be given to VC no matter if it's 500.00, 1000.00, 2000.00 or 5000.00. Heck, I'm not even sure how long to keep collecting. If people have ideas I'm MORE than open to them. Smile

Guys I have sort of tried to ignore these threads cause im really embarrassed but so heartwarmed Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Most of you know the reason for my disability is chronic depression resistant to medication after 10 years of changing them when they stopped working. I can manage ok, but i cant stop the "oh my god i may as well be dead" feeling when a disaster strikes. Yes i can stop any acting on it Laughing i know i ahve to ride it through and the sun will appear.

Anyway, i may have a car available but it is 14 years old, and has to go to a government safety inspection in quebec (they insist NEW cars that get plated here or transferred be inspected Shocked my lease had 10 km on it whne i got it 4 years ago..or 3 1/2 ) They will probably insist on some repairs. its got a "slight clutch" problem, that i know about let alone whatever they choose to be pissy about. I also have the insurance etc, and until the adjustor decides officially what to do with my focus, will need to cover both. One not driveable and one that may not be as far as being able to plate right away.

Either way, with my credit..or non existant credit, i dont have an option for one that i pay over time. No one in their right mind would give me credit with 700 a month income.

Im hoping i will be able to get everything done, including needed repairs for under 2000. for sure its not something i can say "ok" let me just give you a credit card, and i discovered i cant even get a rental while they make the final decision, bc the quebec rental companies insist on a credit card to plate even though the insurance company pays Evil or Very Mad

Regardless, i just want to thank everyone for even caring. You are the best. The first thought i had before i collapsed was "what if scootch or one of the other 9 needs to go to the hospital?" which is sort of silly cause i couldnt take him til the first anyway lol. but definitely not with out wheels. You miss the village store when you are out of bread and cant just pop in to the car and drive the 12 kilometers.

I hope no one thinks that this was my idea, i am so grateful, but i never would have even thought of it. Its not a fun time right now, and you guys are my bright spot. Just knowing you care means the world. Please no one feel they need to help, its just so wonderful that people are even thinking of.

Sorry if this is rambling, but im a mess at the moment and not thinking to well

VC, we :luvu: you here. You and Joy and Diva put up with so much out of us. Yet you give us a "home" and make us all feel so welcome. Caring people deserve caring friends. That's what it's all about. Thank you for caring about us, VC. Heartbeat

I can vouch for VC not knowing anything about it too. I PM'd Joy as soon as I read the thread (where VC told what happened) to talk to her about it. Joy couldn't set it up because it might be considered solicitation on the part of Refugees. That's the only reason I set it up myself. Joy and Medley both have been so gracious and understanding with me throughout and they are both a fountain of knowledge. Thank you both. Heartbeat

Here's one thing to keep in mind when deciding what amount to contribute... just how much this site is worth to you in entertainment value alone. How many hours have we all spent here entertaining ourselves for free? How much would that amount of amusement have cost for going to the movies, buying books, video rental, etc.? So just from that standpoint alone, if you had to put a dollar value on what this site is worth - maybe that should help color your donation figure. Pretend you have to pay a onetime fee for past and future browsing here. What is it worth to you?

And then add in the friendship factor. Besides the daily commaraderie how many have posted about sick pets or family members and been bolstered and heartened by the many good friends they have met here? That too is worth alot. How much would you have been willing to pay for that if there had been a charge involved?

I realize many are on fixed incomes and as we've all heard so many times in our lives - even a dollar makes a difference and to those I say hooray for that dollar. By the grace of God I am no longer at that point but there were many times in my life when I was unable to give anymore than that. And because of the sacrifice behind them I know those small donations sometimes mean even more than the big ones. However, for those who can afford more think of how much time you spend here and what that is worth. Gosh, even a quick visit to MickeyD's costs quite a bit anymore.

As I write this there are 58 people online. If each of them gave $25, that is almost $1500 right there. For my part, even if the car wasn't involved, I'm inclined to donate simply based on the fact that VC is like a one-woman animal rescue league. Animal-based charities are usually the only ones I will contribute to and I refuse to contribute to charities that fund animal research (the list is quite surprising). If VC gets more than she needs to get back into a vehicle and is able to spend what's left over on her critters then that is even better as far as I'm concerned.

That's just my two cents worth. Now I'm off to make a donation.

VC, I think of REFUGEES as family. Ok, be it "quite dysfunctional" family, but family never-the-less. We disagree, we fight, we argue...but damn when one of us is hurting or is in need, we got each others back.

doobie thanks for putting this information up.......I will be making a donation to VC next friday. VC..........I'm pulling for ya!! You take care of yourself..and well hopefully these funds will help ya out.....

PayPal is extremely easy to use. Recently our local Humane Society set up an emergency medical fund for a dog that had been dragged behind its owner's vehicle for several blocks. They set up for donations via PayPal and were overwhelmed with the response. They were looking for $5,000 and wound up with $17,000. They had almost $4,000 within 24 hours. It was such a successful effort that they had other shelters calling from all over the country asking for specifics. They've decided this is the way to go for their fund-raising efforts in the future.
