VC's Living Room. Her place to babble
Admin privelege since i spend about 12 to 14 hours a day here and have only cats to talk to This way i can just post my silly thoughts as i watch a show, or as something happens, in otherwords pretend that posters are in my living room and i can bore them
Something weird tonight. I made the racoons casserole : layers of kibbles and cracked corn topped with fresh blueberries or eggs. Earlier Matilda came by with a baby. Tiny little thing, and i had some old hamburger buns. They love carbohydrates so i held it out to them and matilda took one from my hand and the baby took the quarter i tore off for it.
Now the weird thing. She and 4 babies wandered in the cat door the night i didnt put food out, so i thought maybe a fisher or car got the other 3. 2 hours later she was back with all four. Does she think the first one is old enough to be safe with her early, but the other 3 need to stay home until 3 am?
Or maybe the other 3 didnt like the left over skunk spray from skunky and barney's fright when the weber cover fell off the bar b q

VC, when I frist read that I thought you meant you made raccoon casserole for the cats. Okay...not my taste but if they like it...that's cool. But I see I was confused. Is Matilda a cat or a raccoon. Are the raccoon pets, or do you just feed them? Do I want to know what the skunk did to whom?
One last question.....do you substitute blueberries for eggs in all your recipes?

Matilda is a very smart raccooon who i made a deal with a couple of years ago. She doesnt come in the cat door and eat the cat food if i put out cracked corn and puppy kibble (dog food is better for a racoon). So she isnt a nuisance, and if i forget she sticks her nose in and stares at me. If i ignore it, she comes and munches on the cat food 3 feet from me. I notice and she looks at me directly then slowly waddles out.
Her babies take grapes from my hands in past hyears. Her casserole is a good way to get rid of leftovers i wont eat as a topping
AThe cats and coons get along, and skunky is a favorite skunk. he and the racoons eat together, but its FUNNY to see him stamp a big boar coon down while he eats./ he wandered in one day last year and i was not impressed so i scruffed him and told him he was not a house skunk.. THen i almost6 fainted after i put him out and realized he didnt spray me

I understand now VC. You're a big old softy for pets. I bet they are happy they found you. My neighbor is 94, we live in the city, and she feeds the birds every morning and evening for as long as I can remember. Anyway...the birds line up on the fences, cable lines and telephone polls and house brims before every feeding. I get a hoot out of people are over visiting in the morning and are here about 15 minutes to see them start to flock and maintain positions. , my friends get worried and say "Do you know that there are birds encircling your house"? With the morning silence the birds make a caw caw sound...many, many birds.. She does name some. Her favorite is Petey, he has 3 chins last I looked. You have to see the birds in the A.M. to appreciate it...it does look like a scene from Hitchcock's Birds.

Do think that Natalee had any links and that is why she disappeared? Did J2K "play the links"? Where did they get the links and where did they play them? Are they sausage links or do I need to call for a tee time? Do you thnk there will be more missing links in the near future? JMHO

Well....it was half past four and she was shifting gears. I doubt if it's Patty because this Mommy & Daddy is not going to distribute a couple million dollars in food to any poor areas.

LOL Sandra I have 10 cats now, all strays/feral or dumps. Half have some chronic illness so no one will take them (ok doubt i would trust them with them either). In the village i am known as the crazy cat lady. Thats how i got butterscotch, some lady who found him abandoned was movng and decided to put him to sleep since he wasnt "hers" but felt bad enough to leave the vet with butterscotch and make the appt for the next day. She went into a little store and talked about it and they said "well try this lady michele". I had a message on the phone, called and said i will be there in a half hour.
3 thousand dollars later, he is still going ...... but he didnt have the deadly gut infection or the diabetes or the feline herpes resulting in chronic respiratory infection when i got him. I am glad the strays come here. At least they dont starve.
Umm any canucks in the ottawa area, i have a 2 year old..guessing, who is pregnant. A calico tabby. She was dumped by someone on the road in front of my house. Wish the person got the license number.

I have to confess, I am a critter person as well. It makes hubby crazy sometimes, but he is very good natured about it. We currently have 2 aquariums, 3 fiddler crabs, 3 75 pound or larger dogs and 11 mice. They may start out as pets for the kids, but quickly become Mom's babies. I get strange stares when I talk about the mice, but they are really very sweet and very smart little creatures. I had to learn the hard way how/when to seperate the boys and girls...2 became 11 in 3 months!
CRL
P.S.
I feed the birds and squirrels as well

Castlerocklives, you seem to be a caring person with a big
heart for small creatures, perhaps you can help me?
Last week I found a baby mouse in my garden- it was an awfully
hot day and she seemed to be starving and thirsty- she didn't even
bite me when I lifted her up, obviously she had no powers.
I took her inside and decided to keep her since she seemed to
be unable to survive on her own.
She now has her own huge terrarium with hay, a nest made of cotton,
grass, a coconut house etc., she eats and drinks a lot and is
growing fast, but I feel guilty, because she sure would deserve
to live in freedom, or at least to have some company.
Do you think I should get her a female friend?
(Sounds silly, but Tilly is one of the sweetest babies I've ever seen
and she sure was calling for help

Living out in the country, we have alot of different animals come onto our property. We have one squirrel, particulary, we have named "baby", because she was been with us for 5 yrs now, and she was only a baby, when we first seen her. We have now gotten her used to coming up on our deck where we hand her acorns. At first she was a bit hesitant..now she'll just come up..and stare in the door wall, and fluff her tail up....and its a sign she wants some acorns...

That was so sweet to save the little lady, mice are actually great pets. I assume you know for sure it is female, males have obvious testicles! Unless thay are born and raised together, males do not get along, will fight to the death. Usually females will be fine together after a few days of "who is alpha". As long as you have some escape routes (things to climb up-houses to go in-etc.) I think getting her a friend would be great. Mice are very social. Also, don't spend a lot of money on "fancy" things, my biggest expense is bedding, I only use Carefresh, it lasts the longest and is nice and soft. Mice eat anything, except mine don't like cheese lol. Dry dog food is great protien for them and they love chocolate as a treat. I use small cardboard boxes for houses, sticks for climbing and chewing, and just replace them as needed. Lots of handling will make her very friendly and trusting!
BTW VC-my favorite mouse's name is Butterscotch! He is a big fat brat who loves to sit in the cleavage of my bra and "talk" to me!

That's too funny, Diva. Squirrels can be demanding little shits sometimes. Mine like to irritate the dogs by throwing walnuts out of the trees at them

Ooh, love to read the posts here! Count me in as a critter person. I have a yellow lab, a maine coon cat, a silver-shaded british shorthair cat, and a new kitten (as of yesterday!) that's also a british shorthair - cream colored boy named Jack! I just love critters. Used to have many more but retired, gave 'em away and moved to the coast with the intention of sailing and throwing pots and not having any more creatures. Boy was I in LaLa land to think I could do without little ones! Love the birds too. And, we have loads of deer and bears as well! Crazy, isn't it?

Thank you so much CRL!
I'll wait till she is a little more developed to decide for sure that she is a girl- but I'm pretty sure because I already lived with a little stinker- Frederik- saved from being snake food-
and his ehm derriere looked different.
It's good to hear I'm not the only crazy talking with mice - Frederik loved to hide in my sleeve, loved to be pet behind his ears and had a lot of stories to tell .
Kisses to Butterscotch and the whole gang and thanks again for your advice!
