This was one of those embarrassing moments that almost made me leave the small town I lived in. Nothing bad just a bit strange.

I was living in a small town that I had lived in for years since my children were small. It is a place where you know everyone and everyone knows EVERYTHING about you. I also knew all the law enforcement thanks to my daughter who had quite an active run in her teens. My home has always been a place where my kid’s friends would come and hang out and eat me out of house and home and just call it a second home. I never knew who would be on my couch in the morning.

I had taken a vacation day off on a Friday to go camping at the Ren Fest with my boyfriend. In preparation for this trip he and I decided to go dressed up in the period garments. He had his outfit which was a pink and fuchsia jester’s suit along with his maroon converse sneakers. He looked real special in it seeing as how he is 6’2” and the color was not him. I spent days trying to find a costume. I was going as lady of the court but the outfit I found looks more like a lady of the evening. Hey shopping at Goodwill at the last minute you can’t be picky. Well I ended up with a bright green skirt and a black boos tier and you could have set steins of beer on my tattas.

It was early that Friday we were leaving and since we shopped separately we decided to show each other our costumes. So we went ahead and changed. Little did I know my daughter had a friend who decided to skip school and stay hidden in her room. Apparently he was truant from school a lot and his mother told the police he had been at our house that morning to get a ride with my daughter.

There was a knock at the door and not only were the police (Two guys I have known for years) there but also the boy’s mother and aunt (Biggest Gossips in town). I answered the door in costume not thinking I would have to open it the whole way. Well of course they had to come in a search. They found the boy in my daughter’s room along with me and boyfriend dressed in our strange outfits. I could have explained but decided it would just make it worse. I was the talk of the town for weeks. On top of that someone had put a bumper sticker on my car that said ASK ME ABOUT MY PORN MOVIES.

Nasty little town. I lived there only for another 6 months.

What do you mean you were the talk of the time for weeks -- they're probably still talking about it! Very funny... Smile

They probably are. My family gave that little town a lot of fodder for gossip. My youngest daughter was the last to be gossiped about. Her highschool voted her Homecoming queen her senior year and she really wasn't crazy about the idea so instead of stepping down she gave them a homecoming queen to remember. She did a dread lock thing on her long blonde hair. She looked pretty wild especially for small town Texas people. The homecoming committee wasn't to happy when she showed up at the game. She didn't care. I think I may have raised a bunch of non conformists. OH Well never boring around my house.
