I would have to say my most memorable concert was The Steve Miller Band, in Frankfurt Germany. Unlike any concert I have ever been to in the States.

Cool woebegone. I can picture the opening strains of Fly Like an Eagle. I love that opening riff.

How was it different?

For one thing...it was held in this huge building, yet there were no seats. People were crammed in there like sardines. It was spectatular! Im sure it would have been a violation here, as it was surely "unsafe" to have so many people crammed in there, but everyone enjoyed! There was just enough room to where you could raise your "bic" and give it a flick. Many carried in their wine flasks, which was perfectly legal. I turned 19 that night..standing there amoung thousands of others, my bic in hand, without a care in the world.

Cool. Steve can really play the blues too, in addition to the rock and roll.

July 19 1979------Breakfast in America Tour

Supertramp sold out Exhibition stadium for three shows July 19, 20, and 21. Very Happy

Toronto is a major stop for all groups, so i have seen many.

I also saw Don Ho at the Hyatt Regency in Honolulu Hawaii. Shocked Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Too many to list but some of the best were:

Paul McCartney and Wings (didn't even want to go, but it was great!)

Kid Rock ( Absolutely gives a great time concert!)

The Counting Crows (Good times!)

BB King (Central Park in the 80's!)

Grateful Dead (Went to many, all great!)

Commander Cody (Personal favorite party concert in the 70's)

New Riders of the Purple Sage (Short fame, but fantastic party concert in the 70's)

Charlie Daniels (same as above)

Jimmy Buffett (Best in the 70's, pre Hamburger in Paradise!)

Eric Clapton (Favorite was a general admission, close enough to see Eric sweat!)

ACDC (all-time clean, great rock concert)

Melissa Etherage (husband forced to go!)

Prince (husband forced to go!)

Ozzy (husband refused to go!)

So many good times, I hope to have many more! Concerts are my favorite way to release energy, especially love general admission and standing/dancing forums! What a drag now that most concerts have seating even on the floor section! Evil or Very Mad

LOL at husband forced to go.

You've seen some amazing concerts Isanah.

Where and when did you see Prince? I've seen him four times and loved every single concert. Most memorable was early in his career, after Controversy. He and The Time rocked the house (Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor, MI, mid-eighties). Last time I saw him was in Madison Square Garden a few years ago and he was every bit as electrifying. That dude can put on a great show. One time he appeared in a bathtub!

My husband has never been a great fan of any concerts, but tolerated most of them he was "encouraged" to attend! Wink

I only saw Prince once and it was also several years back in Mobile! I sure miss being in the Long Island/ NYC area, around here most of the major concerts I have to travel to see! The few major ones that come here are usually on WEEKDAYS! Aghhh, try having husband not too thrilled with going to a concert in the first place, go to one on a freakin weekday! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Last year we traveled to see Eminem, yes, husband was thrilled Wink, it was a great disappointment! He only does short snips of his songs, not one complete song! It was quite an experience overall, I have never gone to a concert that doesn't have any bands but all techno stuff or whatever! Actually it was worth the overall experience, sort of..... Laughing

I also loved Guns & Roses in their heyday, but both times I got too wasted, enjoyed them, but don't remember enough about them! I don't know what I was thinking I don't usually drink that much but something funky was going on with me at BOTH those G&R's concerts!

Motley Crew also put on some hot concerts in the day! I saw two of their concerts in the same tour! Laughing

I'm well overdue a concert! I wanted to see Hank Williams Jr. last month but had some time conflicts that I could overcome but didn't feel like forcing the issue with hubby! I'm still mourning the missed experience! Wink Laughing

I had tickets to see Guns & Roses at the Palace in the Detroit area, but they had to cancel the show because they had gotten in trouble the night before in Indianapolis. Axel Rose started a riot or something like that. I think they missed a bunch of shows on that tour. Would have loved to have seen them.

I bet that was memorable when he was probably at his brink of grand success! He was "old" when I saw him, but it was still a great concert! It just wasn't necessary for him to bring all the thrills with him, his name, talent, and history brought his fans! So many that I never saw when they were at their peaks! Such as David Bowie, only saw him, hmmm, perhaps early 90's? Man, I would have loved to see Bowie in his Ziggy Stardust days! My older brother went to a lot of Bowie concerts and years later I discovered his records!

I also missed Alice Cooper in concert, who I absolutely "Loved to Death" and drove my brother crazy by listening to him over and over again! My father refused to let me go to his concert and I'll always regret listening to him! But heck I was only 12! Poor Mom, when Dad died when I was 13, I then went to every concert I could find a way to get to despite her efforts otherwise to keep me from going! Wink

I saw Bowie in 1976 (I was fifteen). Station to Station had just come out. To me, that is perhaps his best period. Before he came onstage, a huge film screen showed a short film that was bizarre and surreal. For years, I thought he had directed it. It's called Un Chien Andalou and was directed by Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali. The concert was short, but awesome. He had all these singers on stage, who just did the middle part of Fame when they go from high notes all the way down the scale. Bowie was in his Thin White Duke period then, and probably had to leave to do more coke, lol. I saw him later in the early 90's and for some reason don't remember much of that show.

Oh, yes, Fame! Funny, I don't remember much about Bowie's concert either that I did see in the early 90's! I even forgot I saw him while I posting about him in the above post, then remembered I did! Laughing
I guess it wasn't that "memorable"! I believe it is partly because he is one of those artists that doesn't rehash his past tunes and I wasn't all that interested in his new interests/music!

Hey, I guess that makes us the same age, 15 in '76! You have much more knowledge and memory of all these artists than I do! I just latch on to certain songs and love to see all sorts of artists that do those songs I latch onto over the years! Like for the past few years I wanted to see Macy Gray because I loved two of her CDs I have of hers! Don't ask me the names, I would have to go look! Embarassed Wink Laughing

I'm also hyped about Maroon 5 right now, my son bought me one of their CD's for my birthday and I love it! I'm all over the "map" with the music I like! ACDC....JJ Cale.....ZZ TOP! Laughing

I saw that concert at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1984.......One of the best stage shows i ever saw.....The Purple Rain tour....Sheila E opened for Prince.

Another awesome stage show was the Zoo TV TOUR BY U2.....

SS...Don Ho was when i was on my honeymoon.... Razz

Another very memorable concert was Duran Duran Shocked on August 15 1982.

I had been in Europe the year before and DURAN DURAN were the hottest thing since sliced bread overthere. They opened for Blondie and stole the show.

My taste in music is odd...as i like to listen to almost anything. Very Happy

Let's see. My favorite concerts of all time...

You mean other than 43 Grateful Dead shows? Okay, in no particular order, the Mothers Of Invention at Smith College (an all women's school) in 1972; Jethro Tull at Boston Garden also in 1972; the Kinks in Rochester, NY in (or about) 1978; Pink Floyd (without Roger Waters) at Legion Field in Birmingham circa 1992; Gil Scott-Heron with opening act Max Romeo and the Upsetters at Cornell University's Bailey Hall in 1977 or 1978; Weather Report at a 300 seat jazz club in Ithaca, NY circa 1977 or 1978; Mahavishnu Orchestra at Ithaca College in 1974; Sun Ra and his Intergallactic Arkestra at City Stages in Birmingham, AL circa 1989; Stevie Ray Vaughn opening for Jeff Beck at (approx. 5,000 seat) Boutwell Auditorium, Birmingham, AL circa 1991; the Neville Brothers every time I've ever seen them (which is now up to about a dozen performances) but with a special nod to New Year's Eve 1987-1988 at the Oakland Colliseum when they were the opening act for the Grateful Dead.
Oh, did I mention the Grateful Dead? My favorite Dead shows (in no particular order): March 31, 1973, Rochester, NY with opening act the New Riders of the Purple Sage - my first Dead show ever; May 8, 1977, Barton Hall, Cornell University - maybe the most magic show I ever attended; November 6, 1977, Binghamton, NY - maybe the best single performance I ever saw from Jerry Garcia; April something, 1983, Binghamton, NY - Deadhead history was made that night; and, last but not least least, July something, 1973, Watkins Glen, NY - more people came to Watkins Glen than Woodstock (crowd estimated at 600,000). The Dead opened the show at noon on a Saturday. Exactly four hours later, they were done. After a change of equipment, the Band took the stage and played for probably less than an hour when they were chased from the stage by a thunderstorm. After the rain was over, the band came back and BOOGIED!!! They flat out stole the show. After the Band's set was done, the Allman Brothers (post Duane, post Berry) came out and played a brilliant 3 hour set. Sometime after midnight, various members of all three bands came back out on stage and jammed till 3:30 a.m. It was an unforgetable day and night!

CharlieRat

I was at the New Years Dead / Nevilles New Year show at the Oakland Auditorium (not Colisium) New Year's 1986-87.

Saw all the bands above that are bolded.

Most were in the period 1966-1979 at Fillmore West and Winterland in the early years and various larger places or clubs in the later years in the SF area.

I haven't been to a concert since 1994.

Thought about making a list like yours will save it for later.

The two bands I saw the most times were the Dead and Zappa/Mothers.

My ex BIL used to say that going to the Dead was like going to an A's game. This was back in the 70s when the A's had about the same attendance as the Dead and one would see the same folks.
I a a life long Gianst fan myself.

Here's one though because I was with my friend the dayglo paint artist (John) from the Prank thread. BTW he is a insurance salesman in Little Rock now.

Ike and Tina Turner Review and Spirit (I really liked this band, in fact it was who I saw in 1994 not long before Randy California drowned in Hawaii) plus some other band plus some trendy chemical amusement aids on Halloween 1969 or 1970 at Winterland in SF.

Another friend's (Griff, his dad was the Griff Williams Orchestra bandleader out of Chicago) older sister was married to an attorney and they had a flat on Union Street. We three flat and dog sat. The dog was an extremely mellow white english bulldog. The puppy was happily dayglo when Griff's sister came home. We were in big trouble.

I didn't want to quote the entire post because it wasn't necessary but, man, Puf, I already knew I liked you. So the two groups that you saw the most were the Dead and the Mothers. Awesome! Obviously two of my very favorites of all time.

And I'm glad to see you mention Spirit. I never saw them but they wer a vastly underated band in their time. "Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus" is simply a rock and roll masterpiece.

Cool! That was the first New Year's Eve show after Jerry's first near-death experience! That had to be a highly emotional show.

Charlie and Pax

You guys are amazing in your ability to recall song lyrics.

And Pax, Dylan's Senor you posted in the Political thread; beautiful and appropriate song for the occasion.
