Off topic. "Big, burly, gay guy."

Hi all. I was at lunch with a friend of mine. She was talking about how our little sisters are going away to college in August. She asked me whether or not the school she is going to has coed dorms. I said that I did not know. She said that she was not sure about her little sister's school, either. She asked me if I would mind if my little sister shared a room with another dude. For obvious reasons, I said "no." She said that she would want her sister to share a room with another guy, so that she "would be protected." This makes a little sense. She said that she needs to find our sisters a "big, burly, gay guy" to be their roomates. Shocked

Well the big, gay guy should be easily found, not sure about burly since "hair" is just not "in"! Many guys are waxing these days! Laughing

Perhaps to "some extent", however, the gay world opens up a whole other "can of worms", so to speak! There was a crime show on last night that depicted a man that killed his gay lover when he found him messing with another guy! Personal safety, common sense, and a little bit of luck may be the only thing we really have to keep us from becoming victims! Wink

Isanah, I hope I understand your analogy regarding the gay couple, that unfortunately domestic violence happens in a lot of relationships, whatever your sexual orientation might be. Personal awareness of situations is very important. Could you please explain to me what 'can of worms' the gay world opens up?

Yes, please don't read into that comment so much. Violence is every where and not inclusive to any group at all. Just happen to see that true crime show and commented about that. It isn't my hope to make anything into a gay issue! Wink

Most co-ed dorms do not allow male and female to be roommates. It is strictly males and females on the same floor or hall; males in one room (apt) and females in another. However, I believe this would be safer than being separate. At least there are guys that can "hear" if they are needed.

Well I personally love big "burly" gay men. Whatever that means. I have not met one gay man yet that could be categorized as "burly". I might have different connotative interpretation of the word than some, but "burly" to me when said, makes me think of a hick red neck tree chopper that dips. But hey, that might just be me. However, I know, have seen, and try to go to see (lol) gay men with exquisite bodies. Laughing And I too, think "hairy" when I think "burly" Wink

That is one possible scenario that may happen! Wink

Obviously, all aspects of any lifestyle have their own issues to contend with on an individual basis! One issue that I addressed when seeking a roommate is whether they have "casual" affairs for I did not want that to occur in my home no matter if they were straight or gay, male or female. Another thought would be issues some gays have with accepting themselves and coping with possible alienation from their families. Just can be another "can of worms" to consider when seeking a roommate! I'm leaving it at that! Wink Laughing Laughing

Whatever someone's sexual orientation is doesn't manner to me, but when I sought a roommate the more secure the person is with their identity the better as far as I'm concerned! BTW, we were talking about the young college student population where many are experiencing their first taste of freedom away from their families! They have a lot of issues to deal with and being gay in this country has its' own "problems" to deal with aside from all the "usual" shit! Wink

Isanah, if you didn't want to persist with gay issues why did you continue to comment on them? Identity difficulties also arise amongst most young people whether they are sexual, cultural or religious issues. The transition from child to adolesence into adultdood can be traumatic for a variety of reasons and family situations. Feeling secure in your own mind and skin does not come easy for many people. Please , free your worms and recycle your can. Make yourself more informed and aware before you speak of issues you appear to know nothing about.

Seraph,

This is a message board not a thesis educational political forum. My comments meant no harm nor were made to inflict my opinions onto another. They weren't anything but thoughts without a lot of deep thought and consideration. I admit that, if you want to make issues where there shouldn't be none, that is your perogative. All you did is flame an issue with reading into too much of what I posted. I stand by what I posted, I know that identity issues are part of all individuals, but you knew that, you just wanted to stir trouble and micromanage this thread for your own reasons and concerns. Yes, I should have left it at that and not take your "bait" like I first considered. However, fuck you to try to make me out for something I am not! I'm sick of posters like you that want to make everything some politically correct, psychology, bullshit issue! Next time you post within a thread with a title such as this one, perhaps, you should have somewhat of a sense of humor.

Sincerely,

Isanah

PS: This post wasn't given much thought either and a response to you just wasn't worth it! Wink

Isanah, I did not set out to highjack anybodies thread, I accepted your off hand remark as just that, you said it wasn't meant to create an issue. You then went on to again bring into the discussion people being secure with their identity. If statements are left unchallenged, people believe them to be fact. That appears to be the whole concept of the controversy surrounding the Natalee Holloway case. People say things without any evidence to back it up and expect it to be taken as fact. I'm sure you don't accept aspects of this case without proof.

Fair enough, I sure didn't think that anyone would take my views as any sort of fact for anything! Basically I am a fairly selfish person and have few friends because too many people have "issues" that seem to complicate my life more than I'm willing to accept! Not the best way to approach life and I'll be the first to admit that, but it keeps my life less complicated. Someone once told me "to have a friend, you must first be a friend"! Hell, if she wasn't right! Wink

BTW, I have only had a roommate for a short time once in my life and I rarely saw her! We got along great! Laughing Wink

I watched this 70's document the other night and they had big burly gay guys on it. It is a group of 'grizzly' I think they call themselves..anyway they definitely do not fit the stereotypes of what Hollywood portrays as being gay.

Big burly for what? If she needs help he will be the first out the door unless his favorite CHER or MADONNA CD is being stolen. Wink
