Very Happy Things are happening quick for Taylor.
Good for him, I hope.
The soul patrol is needed now more than ever.
I think the spirit of all things Elvis has entered his body.

American Idol, American products, pump up the volume.......
Ford hired someone with a great business sense with regards to advertising,
appeal to the regular Joe, lovers of song, powerful engines and freedom of the road.
Dreams can come true, they can happen to you.
You just can't afford the fuel.

Nascar, no doubt.
Coke or Pepsi?

They will ride the new pony til the next one rears up.
I love that commerical. Smile
Catchy tune, flashing lights, pretty man...... I need a Ford, right now! Very Happy

I was just joking about the car, still think it was a smart marketing move.
Now, let us see if it works.

Stages' Saturday attendance may be biggest ever
Sunday, June 18, 2006

Fans of Snoop Dogg, Hank Williams Jr. and Taylor Hicks blended like a crazy quilt Saturday night at City Stages.

Rap lovers in knee-length sports jerseys and heavy gold chains rubbed shoulders with gray-bearded dudes and big-haired women. And into that sizzling stew came the Soul Patrol, the devoted fans of Taylor Hicks, who made his first hometown appearance - a guest spot with Snoop - since winning "American Idol" in May.

The crowd went crazy when Hicks stepped onto the Miller Lite Stage blowing his harmonica just after 11 p.m. He joined Snoop in a performance of "Gin and Juice."

"We're bracing ourselves for the largest crowd we've ever accommodated at a single stage at this event," City Stages marketing director Guy McCullough said. He predicted Saturday's attendance could top any other single day in City Stages' 18-year history.

As Snoop continued his set, Hank Jr. was winding up his show on the Coca-Cola Classic Stage, where he sang such hits as "Kawliga" and "Women I've Never Had" in front of a wildly cheering crowd that stretched across Linn Park in every direction. An hour earlier, the popular Tex-Mex rockers Los Lonely Boys had their own crowd up and moving at the mypeople.com Stage.

Fans of all ages and stripes seemed ecstatic. "City Stages is the best thing that ever happened to Birmingham, and I think Taylor Hicks playing here is the best thing that's happened to City Stages," Dan Browning, 68, said. A retired Social Security worker, he didn't mind waiting hours through several deafening bands with his grandchildren at the Miller Lite Stage.

Hicks, 29, flew home to celebrate Father's Day with his dad, Brad Hicks, and to play Stages as a gift "for all dads ... for the people of Birmingham, for everybody," Hicks said.

Something for everyone

Not everyone came for the big-name acts. Turning up their noses at Snoop and Hicks were Andrew Schaefers, a 17-year-old Springville High School senior, and Sarah Jacobson, 18, soon to be a freshman at the University of Montevallo. They were at the Miller Lite Stage for Yellowcard, a Florida-based pop-punk outfit that features a violin.

"The lineup's been great this year," Schaefers said, referring to a roster of rock acts that included Trapt, Puddle of Mudd and Flyleaf.

In the 90 degree heat of the afternoon, the crowd already had begun to increase. In front of the Jefferson County Courthouse, adults and children - most of them male - joined in a tribal drum circle led by Birmingham's Get Rhythm.

"I can't get my 2-year-old out of the drum pit," David Hazlewood, 43, of Brook Highland, said as he watched his son, Chase, enjoy the noise.

In front of the Coca-Cola Classic Stage, hundreds of people lounged on blankets and portable chairs while others danced to the music of Curley Taylor and Zydeco Trouble.

At the mypeople.com Stage, country rocker Radney Foster looked cool in his black T-shirt and shades, a hank of gray hair hanging over his forehead. Foster had the crowd moving to "the West Texas version" of "Real Fine Place to Start," a song he wrote that became a hit for Sara Evans.

In Cathedral Church of the Advent, home of the Mason Corp. Music Oasis, heavenly sounds filled the air as the Sacred Harp Convention singers performed a cappella, their voices sounding like a full orchestra.

People-watching

At 6 p.m., Snoop fans such as 18-year-old Lamar Christian and his brothers Drakkar Christian, 16, and Angelo Jones, 25, all of Birmingham, enjoyed people-watching as they waited for the star.

A few blocks to the north in Linn Park, Rebel flags emblazoned with "Hank" sold for $25 at one booth. It was within half a block of the Alabama Negro League Association booth, where former Birmingham Black Barons greeted their fans. James "Jake" Sanders, 71; Henry Elmore, 65; and Leroy Miller, 64, sold autographed baseballs for $30 and explained that they're raising money to build a museum.

Despite the heat and the flowing beer, fans at the Waldrep, Stewart & Kendrick City Stages seemed happy and well-behaved. At 11 p.m., police reported no major problems. Saturday, they did arrest 13 minors for alcohol possession and two people, including a vendor, for furnishing alcohol to a minor, Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board Sgt. Jim Wehby said.

Laid back.

And that is exactly the song they performed together. Word is, it was a magical moment. (Happened after my bedtime, unfortunately.)
