Happy Wednesday Everyone!
An open thread . . . hmm . . . I'm following the story about the sniper shooting in Reno. I have a few more details if anyone is interested.

Supposedly he flew into Sacramento the other day, the found that on his credit card info.. he is suppose to be somewhere here in the Bay Area.
The did comment this morning that it was his estranged wife that he stabbed to death in Reno.. all the kids are fine, I guess he has two older ones and then one with this woman that he stabbed. The judge he shot is the one that was handling their case. Will give you a local link...
MORAGA -- Police patrolled the East Bay community of Moraga early Wednesday, alerted that a Reno pawn shop owner charged with murdering his estranged wife and wanted for questioning in the sniper shooting of a judge may be in the Bay Area.
Moraga police confirmed that Reno authorities had alerted then late Tuesday to the possibility Darren Roy Mack had fled to the Bay Area. The wanted man also apparently used his corporate credit card at the Sacramento airport.
"We were told to be on the lookout for Darren Mack and his vehicle -- we have a vehicle description," said Moraga police Sgt. Jeff Price. "We've been cruising the roads of Moraga all night as have other East Bay agencies looking for that car… The CHP is looking on Highway 80 and other areas."

Well apparently Mack had met with a local news reported a couple weeks ago. He had compiled a lot of information on cases where Judge Weller had ruled unfairly. Mack himself was paying $10,000 a month in child support for one child to his second wife. The child was 7 years old. Mack owned a pawn shop, a big one but I seriously doubt that he had $10,000 a month to give. Really sounds like this guy was in desperation mode.
If there's anything good to come of this, maybe they will look over some of the divorce cases handled by this judge.

Last night they had someone on who said the money at stake is in the 8 figures area. He wasn't just a pawn shop owner, his ebay jewelry sales alone were approx $44,000 a month. So it wasn't like a corner pawn shop. He was extremely well known, in fact had spoken in front of the legislator on business issues etc. Somehow i don't see inablility to pay as the issue for him.
Oh the divorce papers.. omg ... the wife allegedly threatened to cut off his penis and freeze it, he had threatened her in return, the allegations in the filings that they put on tv last night were WILD. They both were swingers, apparently she got fed up with that lifestyle and he didnt. (that wasnt what i meant by wild).
Seems to me it was more the custody and even the idea of giving so much to her. Pretty hateful divorce at least via the filings
I hadn't heard re the Bay area.. thanks

If he did this he is wrong, but courts are putting an unfair burden on fathers. I have many freind who are now living with thier mother and fathers after the ex-wifes started getting half their paychecks in child support. They no longer can afford to live own thier own. These are men with good jobs and over 30. Try rebuild your life in that situation. Cheaper to keep her.

Where he supposedly is.. Moraga... is a very influential area.. I mean pricey.. so makes sense in what you said. Supposedly they have been on the lookout for him in this area all night and along the freeways.
Moraga is a neighboring area to Lafayette and Orinda.. Where the Horowitz murder and Susan Polk lived...

If he was pulling down that much, I don't think 10gs a month would be that much too him. There has to be more.

I have thought this for quite sometime... being I do payroll for our company.. I see many many times where guys will just up and quit because they are being so gouged with support payments that they prefer to not even work. These are guys that make a good living.. (now granted here in the Bay Area cost of living is ridiculous).. but I can understand where guys would be upset. Especially if they are more than willing to support their kids.. but they also need to survive. I think if the courts made the child support a reasonable amount more men would be willing to work with the court system and pay it.. and we wouldnt' have to garnish them to get it... (does that make any sense)... AND... I think awarding continuous spousal support needs to be looked at too... jmo

I more than agree with you. I see these fathers suffering trying to meet these burdens. The can't spend time with the kids because they are taking second jobs on the weekend. The love their kids and will support them, but breaking them helps know-one

I am setting up a new party and will run for president of the USA. Toss me a list of things I need to deal with so you can get an idea if I would be any good and if you would consider joining the party. Can be anything, income tax, abortion, .. huricanes.. thanks giving turkeys.. online poker RIAA/DMCA/CIA you name it and I'll put it in a program to be compiled in the near future. Links to known lists are welcome too. Just mark your post 'candidate dugo' or so.

Well, if you would be so kind as to add to your platform the plank that Writergal must receive book advances of no less than 2 million dollars, I will campaign in all fifty states for you, spread ugly rumors about all your opponents, and do your washing and ironing.

I hadn't heard all that VC. Interesting. What a mess no matter how you look at it and everything leading up to it
Regarding child support, I'm all in favor of Dad's getting more rights. Seems too often women just get bored (or whatever) and divorce and still get lots of CS. Maybe there should be mandatory counseling (6 months?) before a divorce involving kids and the counselors can make recommendations to the judges. Judges can't figure out everything going on in the short time that they are looking at a case.

Ok:
1. Remove Nancy Grace from our television screens. Please. Pleasepleaseplease.
2. About those turkeys, they should now all be Turkduckens. They are very, very good, and much more fun to say. And they should be free. And Thanksgiving should be three times a year.
3. Lines should be outlawed at all amusement parks. Instead, it should just be a free for all smack down to see who can get on the ride. At least there's something to watch while you wait.
4. No more online poker. Sorry, but the college male population is dangerously addicted. It is starting to compete with alcohol, and that is saying something.
5. No more infomercials.
6. Stephen Colbert should be installed as the major news anchor for all major cable "news" channels. I highly suspect the reporting style and content will not change much from what we are currently offered.
7. Jim Stewart can do real news, but mostly should be forced to write more sarcastic yet informative books.
8. The Christmas shopping season cannot start until after Halloween.
9. You can wear white shoes any time you want.
10. Colleges will no longer be able to charge really evil amounts for obscure things like "fees" for lab courses, will not charge tens of thousands a year to pay for perks for administration, nor will they charge tens of thousands to pay for unecessary new construction. And if they wish for students to use dining halls they will improve food. UA gets a pass on the last part.
11. Insurance companies will now have their executives locked in dungeons if they are to make repeated mistakes on their computers, making it necessary to call you several times during a month for the same reason. And harass you.
12. Lindsay Lohan will be force fed 2500 calories a day and will return to her natural hair color. This one is super important. She hurts to look at.
I'll think of more, just wait.

Ahhhhhhh gross.
Beware the shrimpers' boots.
I was kidding about the virgins, because I really, really don't think I could find 72 of them around here. Maybe 34. Hey dugo, will 34 do?
