Woo-hoo!! Way to go Johnny Boy!
And she's good-looking to boot. (That might be sexist but since I'm a female then that makes it okay. )

What an amazing pick - The first Female Vice President will be a REPUBLICAN not a Democrat - sorry Barack you had your chance and what did you do - well you sure did not pick a female!

The Republicans have also been first to put African Americans in lofty positions of power, ie. Colin Powell and Condi Rice.

Interesting how they usually get no credit for those appointments.

It was but I must admit I'm a little upset on how this election is focused on race and gender. I have never been a strong supporter of republican but I must say McCain so far has won me over because I detest the smoke and mirrors of Obamas' campaign , it almost sounds like a diet pill advertisement, tell you want you want to hear but down deep you know you are being fed a bunch of bull but buy it out of desperation.

Interesting message board, mainly Hillary Clinton supporters, go see what they are saying about McCain/Palin.
I am so happy for Tina Fey. I loved her on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock. I had no idea that she has been Governor of Alaska for the last couple of years.

For most of her tenure as governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has enjoyed widespread popularity and a reputation as a maverick who refused to stand by fellow Alaska Republicans facing their own ethics scandals.
But the 44-year-old Palin, who was selected as Sen. John McCain's running mate today, is now the focus of her own state ethics investigation as part of the so-called "Troopergate" scandal, a bizarre controversy involving the firing of a state police chief and his reluctance to fire an Alaska state trooper, Palin's former brother-in-law who has been involved in a bitter custody fight with her younger sister.
Just two weeks ago, Palin revealed an audio recording of an aide pressuring the state's Public Safety Department to fire trooper Mike Wooten, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
A portion of Gov. Sarah Palin's (R-Alaska) July interview with CNBC:
Palin also acknowledged that her staff had contacted Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan about two dozen times about Wooten. Monegan himself was fired July 11 (the dismissal was "out of the blue," he told reporters) and he later said that he was pressured by Palin's staff and family to get rid of Wooten, a trooper based in Palmer, Alaska.
(To counter the "Troopergate" tag, the alternative-weekly Anchorage Press has dubbed the firing scandal "Wootengate")
The accusations first surfaced via the blog of former Alaska state rep. Andrew Halcro, who unsuccessfully ran against Palin in 2006.
(On Palin's selection as McCain's vice-presidential pick, Halcro wrote that "this shocking choice says more about McCain's desparation than it does about Palin's qualifications.")
In July, Palin came under a state ethics investigation and critics have said Palin's claim that she did not know of the political pressure being placed on Monegan was a "little too convenient." One fellow lawmaker, state Sen. Hollis French, a Democrat, told The Wall Street Journal that Palin could face impeachment. After French's comments, Palin ordered the investigation into Monegan's firing and told CNBC last month that lawmakers were unfairly targeting her.
"It's cool. I want them to ask me the questions. I don't have anything to hide," she said during the interview. "Didn't do anything wrong there."
The investigation is expected to cost about $100,000 and last at least three months, according to The Associated Press.
The governor has insisted that her decision to fire Monegan in July had nothing to do with former brother-in-law Wooten. Instead, she argued that Monegan "wasn't doing enough to fill state trooper vacancies and battle alcohol abuse issues," according to the Daily News.
The Daily News reports the Palins' fight with Wooten has been especially nasty and public, with the family accusing Wooen of drunken driving, illegal hunting and child abuse, among other charges, based on information culled from private investigators. Wooten and Palin's sister, Molly McCann, divorced in 2005.
The governor's husband, Todd Palin, told the Daily News that his family was also concerned about the governor's safety, saying Wooten threatened to kill the governor's father and made vague threats to her that he would bring Palin down.

No problemo
Se's already passed the vetting.
Biden is the one with the MAJOR ethics problems and Obama's baggage almost precludes him from being a viable candidate.
Biden and Obama, same old same old politics as usual. Biden of course is from Deleware and has been in the large banks pockets for years.
Biden of course supported the bankruptcy changes of 2005.
With Obama picking Biden, it continued his obvious disdain and distrust of women.
The patronizing, of Mrs. Clinton at the convention, did not change history and we're not going to let BHO forget anytime soon!

The VP Choice that Lost the Presidency for McCain
I think we will look back at today as the day when the Republicans most certainly lost the Presidency. In choosing Sarah Palin of Alaska for Vice President, the Republicans have made a cynical but clever choice. At least they think it is clever. She is a woman, young (44 years old), a Governor (only two years), a mother (five children), pro-life, and pro-gun. But what is she not? She is NOT pro-choice. She has NO national experience. She has never been under the intense scrutiny of a national campaign. She is under investigation for some incident in Alaska that is messy and personal. She has no international experience. Her experience governing is in a very small state, famous for its "Bridge to Nowhere" kind of political graft. Her Republican colleague in that state, Senator Ted Stevens has been indicted for corruption.
When Republicans and independents go into the voting booth, will they have the confidence to vote for a McCain-Palin ticket, knowing that John McCain has had several recurrences of his skin cancer, and will be the oldest President ever? Can they imagine Sarah Palin stepping into the Oval Office and dealing with all the problems we face right now? The Russians and the terrorists must be quaking in their boots.
It's a slap in the face of other Republican women like Kay Bailey Hutchison, bless her heart, who was forced to stumble through an interview on TV trying to make the case for Palin whom she has never met. There are certainly women in the Republican party who were "in line" for this before Palin. Did the Rovian type advisors to McCain just cynically think that throwing a young attractive inexperienced woman into the mix would satisfy women who long to see a woman president? Women, and Republican women, are not so stupid as to fall for that! It is reminiscent of the Republicans putting up Alan Keyes to run against Barack Obama for the Illinois Senate just because he was black. Voters saw through that pretty quickly.
It's also a slap in the face of Democratic women voters. They don't get Hillary but they get Sarah as the first potential woman President? In fact, I can just hear Biden saying, "Sarah Palin, you are NO Hillary Clinton!" I would imagine that the few remaining Clinton supporters who are wondering if they should support John McCain are even more leery now. There is absolutely no overlap between the positions Hillary Clinton has fought her entire life for and Sarah Palin. The two women are not remotely substitutable. They are as different as they can be.
How will this cynicism play with American voters? It is insulting to women to suggest that just "any" woman will do!

I think this may end up being the choice that made it possible for McCain to win the Presidency, and many other people besides myself agree.

McCain Gets $7 Million Bounce from Palin Pick
Sen. John McCain has taken in $7 million in contributions since announcing Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, a top campaign aide said today.
The money bounce may owe to Palin's appeal with conservative donors, many of whom said privately they had planned on sitting out the campaign this year. The money comes in just under the wire -- after McCain accepts the GOP nomination Thursday, he will accept public funds and no longer be permitted to raise private money for the campaign.
That will not, however, stop McCain and Palin from raising money for the Republican National Committee. In coming weeks, McCain will host four megafundraising events in major cities aimed at bolstering the accounts of the party. Palin, meanwhile, will be sent out to headline more than a dozen fundraising events for the RNC.
Shortly before Palin's announcement, one senior RNC official said McCain's pick "better like doing fundraising."
Like almost everything else she does, hosting these events will be something of a new experience for Palin. When running for governor of Alaska in 2006, Palin raised a total of just $468,400.
Incidentally, Bill Burton, a spokesman for Sen. Barack Obama, declined to reveal how much money the Democratic nominee took in after his speech to 84,000 supporters in Denver and 38 million television viewers.

Good grief - what a mishmash of crappola. Let's dissect this piece.
First of all on the part about no national experience. One would also be able to make that statement about many previous Presidents - Clinton, Reagan, Carter, Bush, etc. It is generally true that Senators never (or rarely) win the Presidency. In fact, it's quite a turn from normal this year that so many candidates are from the Senate. Governors are generally the winners (and better and more qualified candidates) in the Presidential sweepstakes. Besides, what national experience does Obama bring to the ticket. Zero, zip, zilch, nada. As far as Biden goes - he's been in the Senate longer than McCain. If the country is in such bad shape today I'd say he bears a big responsibility since he's been sitting in the halls of power for so many years.
Palin under investigation for "some" incident. Note how the poster avoids going into specifics.
She's from "a very small state, famous for its "Bridge to Nowhere" kind of political graft. Her Republican colleague in that state, Senator Ted Stevens has been indicted for corruption". If the poster had bothered to check their facts they would know she was against the Bridge to Nowhere and told the feds if Alaska wanted a bridge they'd pay for it themselves. So Ted Stevens is corrupt - does this poster know where Palin stands when it comes to Stevens? Talk about guilt by association - and there is no association other than they are both from the same party.
Oh dear - Alaska doesn't count because it is so small? Guess all those small states like the Dakotas, Montana and some others won't matter then when the election rolls around.
Re: McCain's age and skin cancer. I've never heard of anyone dropping dead overnight from skin cancer but I have heard of many young men unexpectedly dropping dead from heart attacks. Tim Russert is a perfect recent example. I hate to burst this person's bubble but 72 is no longer ancient. It is highly unlikely that a person will simply drop dead on the spot from old age at 72 anymore than one will drop dead at any other time. Most people do not simply drop dead for no reason.
This poster has the nerve to say Palin is a slap in the face to other Republican women - this on the heels of the Dems almost literally stealing Hillary's victory? Best this person should concentrate on getting the Dems house in order before worrying about what the GOP is up to.
And that last paragraph. What? Is this person on drugs? Try to hang the diss of Hillary on the GOP when the Dems are the ones who dissed her. Yeah, I hope Biden and all the others shout to the rooftops of how Hillary was cheated because they're the ones who cheated her. What a dumb shit this was who wrote this. And this from the group that wants to end the divisions and reach across the aisle. Sure - as long as it's the other side doing all the reaching. Amazing how libs have fooled themselves into thinking they are not the very beasts they accuse everyone else of being. Look in the mirror.
