Standing Guard

I saw a sight today that brought me to tears and I had to pull off the road to compose myself. I have also thought about how so many of the young folks today move from partner to partner.

Sandhill Cranes mate for life, and I always feel sad when I see one all alone kind of trying to fit in but not quite able to do so with another couple. Today, in the median of the boulevard lay a dead SH Crane (collapsed something like the ending of Swan Lake), and its partner just stood there, looking (IMO) so bewildered and sad. About three hours later, I passed the same spot, and that bird was still there. I hope and pray that he or she will not meet the same fate (undoubtedly hit by a passing car) and that this lonely bird will find some happiness.
