CHICAGO -- Authorities said Friday they have found human remains near the Illinois Sanitary Ship Canal.
The body of a woman was discovered -- along with a blue garbage can.
Authorities said that the body was badly decomposed.
NBC5's Natalie Martinez reported that authorities did not release the woman's race, but they did say her hair was light in color.
"At first, he (the inspector) thought it was a log or a fallen tree," said Roy Witherow of the Village of Lyons. "But, on closer inspection, he said it was obviously a human foot and leg, and a little closer he saw that it was a human body."
The site was located at 34th and Kedzie, and at least six officials could be seen from Sky5 combing through snowy woods. An inspector was touring the site and made the discovery Friday afternoon.
The blue garbage can has raised some eyebrows, Martinez reported. Former Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson, who is the sole suspect in the disappearance of his wife, Stacy, was seen carrying a blue container shortly after her disappearance last October.
Sgt. Thomas J. Burek, a spokesman with the Illinois State Police, said that the team of investigators assigned to the Stacy Peterson case was "aware" of the body parts found near the Illinois Sanitary Ship Canal, along with the blue garbage can. Burek added that the Illinois State Police was in communication with authorities in Chicago on this new case and would await the results of the autopsy, scheduled for Saturday, before becoming involved in this investigation.

Fishy, you can pinch my cheeks anytime. Take more than that to embarass me. That's not a bad avatar of your own you're sporting.

Is this the same canal they searched earlier?? |
3400 S. Kedzie in Chicago is an industrial area. It is about 20 miles or so from Bolingbrook if I remember correctly.

Frozen remains found in Southwest Side lot
By Jason Meisner | Tribune reporter
10:18 PM CST, January 25, 2008
An environmental inspector from Lyons conducting tests at an industrial site on Chicago's Southwest Side on Friday discovered unidentified frozen human remains in the 3400 block of South Kedzie Avenue, just south of the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal, police said.
The badly decomposed remains appeared to be those of a white female with light reddish blond hair, said Monique Bond, spokeswoman for the Chicago Police Department.
"The remains were ... about 100 feet away from train tracks," Police Officer JoAnn Taylor said. They were taken to the medical examiner's office, where an autopsy was scheduled for Saturday. Lyons police said in a statement that the inspector told investigators he saw "a blue garbage can near the area where the remains were found."
That detail caused interest in whether the remains could be those of Stacy Peterson, who disappeared Oct. 28. Illinois State Police have named her husband, ex-Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson, 53, a suspect, and have investigated whether he removed a blue-plastic container from his home the night before his wife was reported missing.
"There was no blue barrel found near or on the scene," Taylor said.

Lisa Stebic has dark hair, no?
It may just be someone else no one has heard of. Sadly not all missing persons or missing children's cases get news attn like some.

Police: Human remains are not related to missing suburban women
The Associated Press
1:06 PM CST, January 26, 2008
CHICAGO - A Chicago Police spokeswoman says the human remains found frozen to the ground in a field on Chicago's southwest side are not related to the disappearance of Stacy Peterson.
Police spokeswoman Monique Bond also says the body is not related to the disappearance of Lisa Stebic.
The Cook County medical examiner's office says an autopsy is scheduled today on the badly decomposed remains found Friday by a suburban land surveyor.
Authorities say the worker found a human foot and leg near a blue garbage can. But Chicago police have said they did not find a blue garbage can.
The body was found about 100 feet from a set of train tracks just south of the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.
Peterson has been missing since October and Stebic has been missing since April.

I wondered if I missed anything... A lot of drama near the homefornt here. I was very curious as to whether or not they have determined it to be Stacy. I know there are a number of missing women, especially from the Chicago area. It just sparked my interest upon hearing the news but was unfortunately unable to follow up since yesterday. I can always count on RU to keep me posted. Thanks, guys!

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- The decomposed body of a woman discovered in a Chicago, Illinois, industrial area is not that of Stacy Peterson, who disappeared October 28, Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond said Saturday.

Thank you. Drew either knows she is alive or knows she was not rid of in that location. He said he knew it was not Stacy. I should've listened to him for once! Hahahaha, kidding.

It should be pointed out that it's the woman in the middle...the one in blue. That lady is circled in red on the FOXNEWS site photo.
When I first read this post I thought it meant the lady on the left.

I was looking at the one on the right, also. No wonder there have supposedly been Stacy sightings -- lots of ladies resemble her. . .

OK, just saw this photo blown up and placed side by side with a photo of Stacy.
Geez.
It does look like her.
Only problem is that it also looks like thousands of other girls.
And, the Thailand photo is in profile.
I just cannot see this woman leaving her children to tool around Thailand.

Nor can I. And if she were in Protective custody somewhere, I kinda doubt it would be Thailand.
[I didn't believe the Women's Shelter sighting for even a nanosecond. If she had gone there to start with, they would have had her in another one well away from that area quickly with Drew's history, IMO]
