Arkansas Couple Welcomes 17th Child
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -- It's a girl - again - for the Duggars. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar welcomed their 17th child, and seventh daughter, into the world Thursday.
Jennifer Danielle was born at 10:01 a.m. at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rogers, Ark., the Duggars said in an interview. Jennifer weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and arrived five days after Michelle's due date.
Less than 30 minutes after giving birth, the Duggars already were talking of having more.
"We'd love to have more," Michelle said, adding that the girls are outnumbered seven to 10 in the family. "We love the ruffles and lace."
Jennifer joins the fast-growing Duggar brood, who live in Tontitown in a 7,000-square-foot home. All the children - whose names start with the letter J - are home-schooled.
The oldest is 19 and the youngest, before Jennifer, is almost 2 years old.
"We are just so grateful to God for another gift from him," said Jim Bob Duggar, 42, a former state representative. "We are just so thankful to him that everything went just very well."
Jennifer joins siblings Joshua, 19; John David, 17; Janna, 17; Jill, 16; Jessa, 14; Jinger, 13; Joseph, 12; Josiah, 11; Joy-Anna, 9; Jedidiah, 8; Jeremiah, 8; Jason 7; James 6; Justin, 4; Jackson, 3; Johannah, almost 2.
The family includes two sets of twins.
Michelle Duggar said that Joshua, Janna, Jill and Jessa were at the hospital, but that the rest of the family planned to visit their new sister later Thursday.
Michelle Duggar said she started feeling contractions Wednesday night and went to the hospital at about 5 a.m. Thursday.
"It actually went fast," she said. "I guess once I started progressing, it went within 30 minutes."
Jennifer was born via a VBAC - or vaginal birth after Caesarean, Jim Bob Duggar said.
The Duggars have been featured on several programs on cable's Discovery Health Network. The next special, the Duggar Family Album, is scheduled to air next month, Jim Bob Duggar said.
Among the "fun facts" listed on Discovery Health's Web page devoted to the Duggars: A baby has been born in every month except June; the Duggars have gone through an estimated 90,000 diapers, and Michelle, 40, has been pregnant for 126 months - or 10.5 years - of her life.

This is an amazing family. I have seen them on Discovery. Everyone seems happy and well adjusted, and all of the children are very helpful with everything. Raising one child can be a challenge but they are raising all 17 (so far) of thiers beautifully.

Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar married July 21st, 1984. At that time, they chose to use the birth control pill. They thought, “We don’t want children right now. We can’t afford them. We want children in our timing, when we’re ready.” Four years later they decided to have their first child. Then, Michelle went back on the pill, but she conceived and had a miscarriage. At that point they talked with a Christian medical doctor and read the fine print in the contraceptives package. They found that while taking the pill you can get pregnant and then miscarry. They were grieved! They were Christians! They were pro-life! They realized that their selfish actions had taken the life of their child. They prayed and asked God to forgive them, and to teach them to love children like He loves children. They asked God to bless them with as many children as He saw fit in His timing. Right after that Michelle got pregnant with twins! To date they have been blessed with 16 children, (10 boys and 6 girls) Joshua, Jana & John-David (twins), Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah & Jeremiah (twins), Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah (& Jennifer due July 28, 2007).

I'm sorry I think these people are insane. Someone needs to do some number crunching and figure out how much waste and destruction to the environment this back yard breeder creates with each uterian feat.
That would be much more interesting I think- I am betting this family will need a landfill all for themselves by the time it's all over with. It isn't going to stop. Gawd, can you imagine if each of these kids follow in their mother and father's MASSIVE family footsteps? They could wind up populating an entire state.

Some of these kids look pissed.
Geeze, I like the violin and all, but what if one of them wants to play the drums?

They look like clones. They probably all act like each other too. I agree, they are insane! Though I agree they are well mannered children, maybe too much so! At least they are self supportive, more than I can say for many others with multiple children likely from multiple fathers!

Good for them, they seem to manage a lot better than people with one child.

i'm sorry but someone needs to grab a needle and thread and sew up this woman's vagina.
it's insanity in this day and age to have this many kids.
i watched the special on them also and the way they pair up an older sibling with a younger sibling and label them with the name of "help buddy" or some such nonsense.
the kids are the one who suffer in this situation. not only do they probably get referred to by 6 or 7 of their "j" named siblings before mama and daddy get their name right, but how in the hell can there possibly be any one on one time with ANY of their 17 kids?
pffft. . .

Just the other day a woman left her 5 month old baby in a car all day to die, I guess one kid was too much for her. Some parents are soo busy working that they never spend time with their kids.
These children seem to be very well loved and looked after.IMO

what's up with all these nut jobs "forgetting" about their kids in the car?
how whacked out do you have to be to forget a kid in a car?
it's become like an epidemic.
of course michelle duggar shouldn't have that problem cause she has her chitlins paired up.

Wow, that's the exact same thing I said the other day to my hubby. For the first few occurrences I was somewhat sympathetic but now that it does seem to be an epidemic I'm wondering how can you possibly forget - or at the very least not remember shortly thereafter? The biggest question is wouldn't you notice them when you got out of the car? Are people really that distracted anymore?

I have never understood it. Not ever. I can't imagine leaving MY DOG in the car on a warm day, let alone my child. It just boggles the mind.
I don't see how these parents couldn't possible neglect their children to a certain degree. It just doesn't consist of leaving them in a hot car. It is a different kind of neglect.
I see the point about abusive parents, but IMO, this is a form of abuse. I just hope they don't grow up to have as many kids as their parents, and don't feel that using BIRTH CONTROL is something that needs to be "forgiven".
Geeze. A clan like that is scary imo. I cannot imagine the guilt these kids must feel with parents preaching that kind of absolute nonsense.
It really isn't any of my business or anything, but they are the ones on discovery channel and preaching that Contraception kills babies, and begs forgiveness from God.

Birth control isn't limited to chemical contraception; people were/are able to keep the size of their families down through many forms of BC that are completely natural and don't involve killing babies because no baby is conceived. And they still manage to have healthy sex lives.

seems to me that the duggars should celebrate labor day a lil more -- then they would have a june baby.
holy shit.
can you imagine spending that much of your life pregnant?

It's more than 25%. Yikes!
Can you imagine giving birth that many times? Of course, by now they probably pretty well slip right out.
